     Please note that Parent/Teacher Interviews will be Thursday, March 25th from 4-6  pm and Friday, March 27th from 9-11:30 pm. NO school for students on Friday. Reports cards go home Tuesday along with interview slips.Monday, we will be receiving salmon eggs to feed and foster as part of the Miramichi Salmon Association's Fish Friends Program. Student's are looking forward to Mrs.Wright's visit. April 8th, we are also planning on attending MVHS's Fly Fishing Expo from 9-11 am.Student's will participate in many educational activities throughout the morning.French - As far as our weeks goes, we will utlize our time to continue with our French unit and complete assignemnts that I had anticipated in completing last week.Math - We also will continue with our multiplication this week. Feel free to naviagte to the Learn Alberta website provided in my web links section and have your child review the multiplication section from the main menu. Daily activity sheets will also be sent home to give parents an idea as to what we have completed that particualr day. Reminders:Read and record book nightlyVerify agenda'sWednesday is Choir Rehearsal from 3 - 4:15 for choir studentsWednesday is also Home and School at 6 pm.      Please note that report cards will be going out on Tuesday, March 24th A memo for Parent/Teacher interviews will be sent home with report cards and interviews will be done up March 25th. Appointments and times will be sent home the 26th. French - Our topic of discussion this week will be about our favorite passe times. What they are, where we partake, etc. Students really enjoy this theme. We will continue to add to our class word wall and learn new songs as we go! Students will also commence a narrative story about St. Patrick’s Day on Monday. We will use the remainder of our week to complete discussions/activities in regards to our province i.e. local attractions across various villages, towns, and cities across New Brunswick as we wrap up our Social Studies Unit. Students will commence a brief city/town presentation upon completion of our unit. Following Social Studies, we will move on to study Canada’s Food Guide and healthy lifestyles in Health.  Please continue to read at home each night to promote the gains they have made thus far. Do not hesitate to ask your child questions. From time to time an activity sheet will be sent home to complete their reading. Please pay attention to their agenda’s. Math – Last week we reviewed our 4th unit in math and students wrote their test. Please sign and return. Monday we will commence our multiplication and division unit. Incomplete work will be sent home if need be. If anyone is interested in supplemental work for your child, please send me a note and I would be more than happy to send some in their reading bags. Reminders: - Reading is to occur nightly- Please sign agendas and reading log sheets.      Following are a list of activities and events planned for Winter Carnival:Monday - PJ and Stuffed Animal DayTuesday - Crazy Hat DayWednesday - Crazy Hair/Board Games. Pink shirt day as well.Thursday - Sport's Day. Dress as an athlete. Teacher vs student floor hockey game in gym (afternoon).Friday - Pancake breakfast and Backwards Day.

     Welcome back. We will be celebrating Acadian culture Friday, Feb 20th with a “Kitchen Party” at school. Students will be able to sample poutine râpée and chicken fricot. Next week, St. Andrew’s will be hosting a Winter Carnival. Please stay tuned :) French-This week we will undertake a writing activity about winter seeing that “Old Man Winter” has not been very cooperative lately. With that being said students will be introduced to new terminology and continue to utilize our high frequency words on display on our word wall as well as their French dictionaries. 6+1 writing trait mini lessons are also incorporated into our routine prior to any writing activity. This week we will be focusing on “organization” and “word choice” as part of our mini lessons. Please note we continue with guided reading and Daily 5. Comprehension, fluidity, visualization, and prediction strategies continue to be the focus of my mini lessons. Each morning prior to our routine, we take the time to read 2-3 class books collectively as a class. Math-We continue with our 4th unit. This week we will be learning to measure objects using a 30 centimeter rules and meter stick.  Next week we will be learning to measure perimeter and area. Word problems will also be studied and dissected in order to find key words/phrases. If you like extra practice for your son or daughter at home, please notify me and I will send supplementary work in their reading bags. The following is a link to a great math resource. Grade 3 expectation is that students can multiply up to 5x5. Social Studies – This week we will be exploring the larger urban areas of NB as well as the difference between what is an urban area and what is a rural area? We will also compare our province in terms of populations and size to other provinces and territories in Canada. From there, students will learn about various bodies of water in and around NB.      French - We continue to discuss and write about what makes us unique. Students really enjoy this particular theme.Also, we will undertake a writing activity about Valentine’s Day. Students will be introduced to new terminology and continue to utilize high frequency and word wall words, as well as French dictionaries. 6+1 writing trait mini lessons are also incorporated into our routine prior to any writing activity. This week we will be focusing on “organization” and “word choice” as part of our mini lessons.Guided reading/Daily 5 continues as usual. Students have made great personal gains and continue learn how to incorporate new skills such as prediction, visualization, etc. while reading. While at home if your child is unsure of a word, feel free to write it down on a sticky note and/or write it down in their agenda and we will practice the word(s) and add them to our word wall. As well, please ensure your child records the book(s) they have read each night in the reading log sheet. I have extra copies once their log becomes full.Math - We continue with our 4th unit. This week we will be studying the calendar and seasons as a measure of time. Word problems will also be studied and dissected in order to find key words/phrases. Activity sheets will be sent home as need be. Please notify me and I will send supplementary work in their reading bag if you would like extra practice for your son or daughter. This unit typically is more hands on and students really enjoy the various activities.Social Studies - We continue to learn about the province of NB. This week we will talk about our provincial flag and the differences between cities, towns, villages, bodies of water, etc.Reminders:  - Reading is to occur nightly - Please sign agendas and reading log sheets.      Welcome back. We will continue covering French and Social Studiees material that had been posted last week due to the fact we had missed two days last week due to the weather.French - Aside from last week's material, Monday, February 2nd is also Groundhog Day. We will celebrate the day with an art and writting activity. Art will be sent home the following week after being displayed in the hallway.Math - Patterns test has been corrected and will be sent home to be signed. Please return to school. Monday, we will commence our Measurement unit. Following measurement, we will move on to multiplication and division. Feel free to practice "doubles" math fact at home i.e. 2+2 = up to 12+12 = and +/- 1,2 i.e 2+3..."I know that 2+2 = 4 therefore 2+3 = 5, etc. This will facilitate our upcoming unit in March.      French - We will be commencing a new theme this week. We are moving on from what makes us unique to discussing our favorite activities and pass times. This theme is our 8th within the French Immersion curriculum. Students will learn to say “Je préfère, j’adore, je joue, je fais”, etc and incorporate these structures into their reading and writings as well.Likewise, we continue on a practice our “dictée” (spelling words) throughout the week as well. Each day, students have an opportunity to practice in one of 5 centers created throughout the classroom. Please ensure that students read their take home books nightly to provided them with an extra opportunity to masters their vocabulary, sounds, comprehension, and fluidity. *** If your child is unsure of a word, feel free to write it down on a sticky note and/or write it down in their agenda and we will practice the word(s) and add them to our word wall. As well, please ensure your child records the book(s) they have read each night in the reading log sheet. I have extra copies once their log becomes full.Math – As for this week, we will be using our time to review/go over concepts thought to date in our Patterns unit. Test on Wednesday.Feel free to contact me via e-mail and/or agenda if you would like additional material for your son/daughter to practice at home.Social Studies – This week we will read a book entitled “Je fais le plan de ma class” and review the map students completed last week. My focus this week will be on how to read/understand map legends. My goal is to have students complete a legend of their own by Friday.Additionally, we will continue to utilize Google Maps and Google Earth to explore various locations throughout the city and province.
