Welcome back. We will be celebrating Acadian culture Friday, Feb 20th with a “Kitchen Party” at school. Students will be able to sample poutine râpée and chicken fricot. Next week, St. Andrew’s will be hosting a Winter Carnival. Please stay tuned :) French-This week we will undertake a writing activity about winter seeing that “Old Man Winter” has not been very cooperative lately. With that being said students will be introduced to new terminology and continue to utilize our high frequency words on display on our word wall as well as their French dictionaries. 6+1 writing trait mini lessons are also incorporated into our routine prior to any writing activity. This week we will be focusing on “organization” and “word choice” as part of our mini lessons. Please note we continue with guided reading and Daily 5. Comprehension, fluidity, visualization, and prediction strategies continue to be the focus of my mini lessons. Each morning prior to our routine, we take the time to read 2-3 class books collectively as a class. Math-We continue with our 4th unit. This week we will be learning to measure objects using a 30 centimeter rules and meter stick.  Next week we will be learning to measure perimeter and area. Word problems will also be studied and dissected in order to find key words/phrases. If you like extra practice for your son or daughter at home, please notify me and I will send supplementary work in their reading bags. The following is a link to a great math resource. Feel free to explore and practice :)http://hzsd.ca/learningcenter/Library/Math+Resources/Grade+3+Math+Websites *Note that multiplication will be our next unit of study. Grade 3 expectation is that students can multiply up to 5x5. Social Studies – This week we will be exploring the larger urban areas of NB as well as the difference between what is an urban area and what is a rural area? We will also compare our province in terms of populations and size to other provinces and territories in Canada. From there, students will learn about various bodies of water in and around NB. Below, I have provided a link describing various terms, locations, and means of transportation in French. http://safeshare.tv/w/vtdNkaZSpX Reminders: -Reading is to occur nightly -Please sign agendas and reading log sheets.
