     Welcome back! Parent-teacher interviews that had been scheduled for last Thursday evening will now take place this Thursday, March 24th.Thank you for your understanding. Please return your child's brown reportcard envelop as I require them for June. We will be going skating Wednesday morning at the LBR rink. Students will be skating from 8:45 -9:45. A reminder that Monday morning, March 24th our class will be attending JMH for the Miramichi Music Festival. Our class concert time is 9:30. All parents that will be attending are asked to be at least 10-15 minutes early. Members of the choir will be singing Wednesday at 10:25 a.m.  French - Due to our shortened week last week, we will utilize our time to work on remaining material that was not covered.  We will also commence filming our Social Studies videos re cities, towns, and villages of NB.  Math - This week students will be learning about masse. Our objectives will be to estimate and measure the masse of objects in grams and kilograms.     Welcome back! Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday. Parent-teacher interviews will take place Thursday evening and Friday morning. Fingers crossed that there will be no more storm cancellations J  French - Students will complete a narrative story about St. Patrick’s Day on Monday. We will use the remainder of our shortened week to complete our discussions on “Seasons” and local attractions across various villages, towns, and cities across New Brunswick as we wrap up our Social Studies Unit. Students will commence their final copy of their city/town presentation and practice reading it in advance of the final tech presentation. Following Social Studies, we will move on to study Canada’s Food Guide and healthy lifestyles in Health. Students continue to make gains in their reading, and I am pleased with everyone’s results to date. Please continue to read at home each night to promote the gains they have made thus far. Do not hesitate to ask your child questions pertaining to the 5 "w's" (who, what, where, when, why) to challenge them further.   Math - We will finalize our 4th unit on measurement this week. This week students incorporate their addition skills in order to measure area and perimeter. Thursday we will review in preparation for their unit test on Monday.    Welcome back! I was excited to see everyone today and hear their stories! A reminder that report cards will be sent out on Wednesday the 19th Parent-teacher interview notices will be sent home soon. French - We picked up from where we left off and continued to discuss “Seasons” as our topic of discussion. We will take the opportunity this week to discuss climate in New Brunswick as we integrate Social Studies into our French lessons. We will review the fall season and words studied from last term in order to complete a table regarding what students do, wear, and feel in fall. From there we will complete another table on winter and so on. Please continue to read at home each night to promote the gains they have made thus far. Do not hesitate to ask your child questions pertaining to the 5 "w's" (who, what, where, when, why) to challenge them further. Math - We continue with our 4th unit. This week students will be estimating and measuring the length, width and height of objects equal or greater than 1 meter. We will also make conversions from cm to m and vice versa i.e. 150 cm = 1.5 m Social Studies - This week we will study climate in NB, as well as points of interest/ attractions across various cities and towns. Prior to break, students began researching and writing their rough copy of their chosen city/town for their final project. We will continue this week in preparation for their final project which I suspect will near completion in a week or two.      Welcome back to the final week of February. Classes resume Monday, March 10th as students will be off for March Break. French - This week students will complete various oral and written activities about seasons changing.  Likewise, we will continue to add to our class word wall and learn new songs as we go! Please continue to read at home each night to promote the gains they have made thus far. Do not hesitate to ask your child questions pertaining to the 5 "w's" (who, what, where, when, why) to challenge them further. Math - We continue with our 4th unit. This week students will be learning about measurement. We will explore different units of measure and complete various activities with conventional measurement tools i.e. rulers and non-conventional ones such as their feet, etc. Social Studies - We will continue from where we left off last week in order to complete a computer project about a city, town and/or village in NB in the computer lab later on in the term.     Welcome back! A reminder that Monday is a professional learning day for all teachers and support staff. I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday and discussing what everybody did during their extended weekend. French - This week we will undertake a writing activity about winter seeing that “Old Man Winter” has not been very cooperative lately. With that being said students will be introduced to new terminology and continue to utilize our high frequency words on display on our word wall as well as their French dictionaries. 6+1 writing trait mini lessons are also incorporated into our routine prior to any writing activity. This week we will be focusing on “organization” and “word choice” as part of our mini lessons. Our video presentation was filmed last week. I am currently in post-production. My goal is to have the video up on my page by next Monday. Please continue to read at home each night. Do not hesitate to ask your child questions pertaining to the 5 "w's" (who, what, where, when, why) to challenge them further. Math - We continue with our 4th unit. This week we will be studying the calendar and seasons as a measure of time. Word problems will also be studied and dissected in order to find key words/phrases. Social Studies – This week we will be exploring the larger urban areas of NB as well as the difference between what is an urban area and what is a rural area? We will also compare our province in terms of populations and size to other provinces and territories in Canada. From there, students will learn about various bodies of water in and around NB.    Welcome back everyone. I was away since Tuesday due to an unforseen family emergency. I will tend to any messages left by my supply first thing Monday morning. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.French - This week we will be filming our “Me Voici II” video. Students will take an active role this time through and assist in the filming. Students will assume the role of director, assistant, editor, etc. We will also follow up on our Olympic country (Finland) and see what sports they will be participating in this week. This assignment will tie in nicely with our new Time and Measurement unit in math as well.   Wednesday from 8:45-9:45 we will be skating at the LBR Rink. St. Andrew’s has extra helmets and skates for those how may require either one. Please note we continue with guided reading and Daily 5. Comprehension, fluidity, visualization, and prediction strategies continue to be the focus of my mini lessons. Each morning prior to our routine, we take the time to read 2-3 class books collectively as a class. Math - We continue with our 4th unit that had been introduced last week. Activity sheets will be sent home as need be. If you like extra practice for your son or daughter at home, please notify me and I will send supplementary work in their reading bags. This unit typically is more hands on and students really enjoy the various activities. Again, the Olympics will be tied into our math work throughout the remainder of the games. Social Studies - We continue to learn about the province of NB. This week we will talk about our provincial flag and the differences between cities, towns, villages, bodies of water, etc. Reminders:  - Reading is to occur nightly - Please sign agendas and reading log sheets.           Welcome back everyone! Hard to believe we are already into the month of February. Your child has come a long way in such a short time. Be sure to congratulate them in their successes, because I am proud of what they have accomplish thus far. French - This week students will be completing several assignments. Monday we will be undertaking a writing and art activity about ground hog day and discuss whether “Shubenacadie Sam” saw his shadow or not and the superstition surrounding February 2nd. Tuesday we will be learning about Finland. Findland was chosen at random as our Olympic country to follow throughout the Olympics. This will tie in nicely with our Social Studies unit seeing that we are currently learning about maps, cardinal points and legends. We will take the opportunity during class time to dig a little deeper this week in preparation for our Olympic ceremony to be held Friday afternoon. If time permits we will utilize Google Earth again to visit points of attraction/interest in Finland and Sochi, Russia Wednesday we will commence filming of our “Me Voici II” video. Students have expressed that they are excited to film. I look forward to seeing the end result. Lastly, Art Richard will pay a visit to St. Andrews on Friday and enrich us with his musical talents in French. Art is an animated character who has an act for singing and performing. Students who have not previously met him are in for a treat! Please note we continue with guided reading and Daily 5. Students have been making great gains, and we have slowly progressed to F level books. Comprehension, fluidity, visualization, and prediction strategies are the name of the game during this time.  We also take to to read collectively in the morning prior to our morning routine. Math - Students completed their unit 1 math test (Patterns) on Friday. I am in the process of correcting them. They will be sent home either Tuesday or Wednesday to be signed and returned. Our next unit of study will be Time and Measurement. Social Studies - As mentioned we will be learning about Finland. Here’s hoping they do well throughout the Olympics so we are able to track their progress/medal count.    Friday, January 31st students will be permitted to bring electronic items (i.e. iPods, mp3 players etc.) to school as part of a fundraising initiative for our school playground. $1/item permits your child to use their devices. Devices are only to be used during recess time and a special half hour in-class designation time. Please note that your child is responsible (lost, broken, etc) for their device(s). Welcome to another great week in 3 Glazier. I trust students enjoyed their day off on Wednesday. Finger’s crossed that Mother Nature will cooperate and students will be able to enjoy the recess break outside. French - This week students will be correcting/self-assessing and rehearsing their draft copies of their video presentation prior to next Monday. I look forward to helping students master the language and find their “voice” in each piece. Stay tuned J  Guided reading/Daily 5 continues as usual. We have progressed on to E level books and students continue learn how to incorporate new skills such as prediction, visualization, etc. while reading. While at home if your child is unsure of a word, feel free to write it down on a sticky note and/or write it down in their agenda and we will practice the word(s) and add them to our word wall. As well, please ensure your child records the book(s) they have read each night in the reading log sheet. I have extra copies once their log becomes full. Math - Last week’s weekly quiz has been corrected and sent home to be signed. Please return with your child this week. As for this week, we will be using our time to review/go over concepts thought to date in our Patterns unit. My goal is to administer their unit test Friday. Feel free to contact me via e-mail and/or agenda if you would like additional material for your son/daughter to practice at home. Social Studies – This week we will read a book entitled “Je fais le plan de ma class” and review the map students completed last week. My focus this week will be on how to read/understand map legends. My goal is to have students complete a legend of their own by Friday. Additionally, we will continue to utilize Google Maps and Google Earth to explore various locations throughout the city and province. Students really enjoy this time! Welcome back! The cold weather is upon us once again. Here’s hoping we will be able to make it outside for recess this week. French - This week I would like to prepare students to film another video documentary about themselves similar to the one filmed in September. With that being said we have begun the process of learning to write procedurally in order to prepare our script for the video. The “write traits” will also be incorporated into our writing and I hope to film by next week if possible. Please stay tuned in February for our child’s presentation. Guided reading/Daily 5 continues on a daily basis as well. Students have made great gains and are on track with their reading. Please ensure that students read their take home books nightly to provided them with an extra opportunity to masters their vocabulary, sounds, comprehension, and fluidity.  Likewise we continue to master our sounds. We are learning the sounds “on” this week in class and a sheet has been sent home in their reading bag to practice. Math - Last week’s weekly quiz has been corrected and sent home to be signed. Please return with your child this week. As for math, we have moved on from ascending patterns to discussing descending patterns and attributes. We continue to master the language in French and incorporate word problems into the mix to promote higher level thinking. Social Studies - We are studying “place” this term. Ultimately students will be expected to: 1) Locate their province in the Atlantic region, Canada, North America, and the world       2) Describe the major physical features, climates, and vegetation of their province and the Atlantic region 3) Examine where people live and how people make a living in their province   This week students will complete a detailed plan/outline of the classroom in order to understand direction and located certain objects in the class. Later, students will learn about cardinal points and how to draw/read a legend in order to create their own map and what need be included. From that point on, we will look at the school as a whole, the City of Miramichi then the province. Throughout the term, we will also take time to utilize Google Maps and discover places throughout the city and province. Welcome back to another great week in French Immersion. We had a wonderful first week back. I enjoyed listening to everyone’s holiday stories and proud at the fact that everyone quickly pulled up their sleeves and was ready to continue learning en français. Please note that the social studies component of the course will be incorporated into our studies. Students will begin to learn about the province of New Brunswick. French - Last week we picked up where we left off prior to the holidays and continued learning about our favorite pastimes. This week our focus will be where and with whom we partake in our favorite pastimes. Upon completion of this block, students will begin to incorporate the processes of writing/traits as we continue to expand our writing and vocabulary. Guided reading/Daily 5 continues on a daily basis as well. Students have made great gains and are on track with their reading. Please ensure that students read their take home books nightly to provided them with an extra opportunity to masters their vocabulary, sounds,  comprehension, and fluidity.   Math - In math, we have begun our unit on Patterns. Students have a deep understanding of the concepts thought thus far and we are simply furthering our knowledge by going beyond the objectives of the unit and dig a little deeper with the use of word problems and oral discussions to test for understanding. * Please note that weekly Friday quizzes will continue. Advance notice/practice will be sent home. Quizzes will either cover mental math strategies and/or unit related questions. Welcome back to another week in 3G! Our daily routine will fluctuate this week due to the many activities planned. French - We continue to learn new vocabulary as we progress through our activities and favorite pastimes unit. We will complete our Christmas vocabulary dictionary this week as well. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. Math - This week, I will be using our time to review our past 2 units that we have covered thus far. We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our “Tour du Monde” mental math activity has been a success with students in class and they really enjoy learning their +/- facts. Reminders: -   Reading is to occur nightly. Please record on sheet. -   Please sign your child’s agenda to let me know you have reviewed homework. -   Library Thursday -  St. Andrew’s Christmas Concert is Tuesday December 17th at 12:30. -  Skating Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10.
