Welcome back to another week in 3G! We have a busy two weeks ahead of us filled with many fun activities prior to vacation time. * A note to parents/guardians that I will be away attending Immersion meetings in Moncton on Tuesday. French - We will be commencing a new theme this week. We are moving on from what makes us unique and discuss our favorite activities and pass times. This theme is our 8th within the French Immersion curriculum. Students will learn to say “Je préfère, j’adore, je joue, je fais”, etc and incorporate these structures into their reading and writings as well. We continue as well to collaborate with Mrs. Comeau in preparation for our Christmas concert on the 17th. We are adding a special twist to one of our songs and incorporating various French verses to one of them. We have a dress rehearsal Friday and I look forward to seeing students sing. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. Montre et Raconte continues to be a hit with students. Presenters look forward to presenting their item everyday at 2:30 prior to dismissal. Another French teacher came by to visit and was very impressed with their level of French thus far in the year. Bravo mes amis! Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our “Tour du Monde” mental math activity has been a success with students in class and they really enjoy learning their +/- facts. Congratulations to the students for writing their second math unit test of the year. Please ensure tests are signed and returned. The adding and subtracting unit will be revisited in the spring providing students the opportunity to master concepts taught and expand their knowledge even further. We continue to provide support for our answers and learn to write out our answers in French. Reminders: -   Reading is to occur nightly. This week is also Bully Awareness Week. Special activites will be held throughout the week to promote awareness.  French - Last week students completed a writing assignment based on their family. Students utilized their dictionary, class word wall and “ideas web” to describe and create a book based on their family. Our objective will be to present the members of our family, describe some of their physical traits, and lastly move on to discuss members of our extended families. Bravo les amis! You will notice as well that students now have a new reading log sheet in their take home bag.   Welcome to our 9th week of school. Time has gone by quickly. I am extremely impressed with the level of French your child has learned thus far. Safe to say they are over their “first initial phase” towards becoming fluent students. Let’s keep up the good work J    French - This week we will be wrapping up our theme on animals and moving on to discuss families. Last week, students were taught how to use our class set of French dictionaries in order to assist them in their very first piece of writing.  We are going through the writing steps process as we progress with our vocabulary and terminology. It is very exciting to see the progress your child has made. Their first piece of writing was all about a “weird” animal they had to create and describe.   Also, Daily 5/guided reading has commenced. I began last week by demonstrating what is expected of students during this time. Further explanation of this procedure will be given during parent teacher interviews or via e-mail if you are curious as to what takes place. This time essentially provides me the opportunity to read and work with a group of students, while the others are tasked with various activities.   Math - Today we had a small class quiz on number up to 1000 (place value, numbers greater then/less than, etc.) to wrap up our first unit in math. We will now be moving on to tackle mental math strategies up to 2 digits, along with addition and subtraction of 3 digits numbers where the final answer can be as high as 1000.   As always, we continue to practice numbers orally up to 100. Students have caught on quickly and are all doing well.  We continue to practice every day during our morning routine and math classes.   Reminders:   Reading is to occur nightly. Please record on sheet.   Reading bags are to be returned daily   Please sign your child’s agenda to let me know you have reviewed homework   Halloween Jamboree Thursday, October 31st. Orange memo sheet was sent home last Thursday.   Let's have a great week! As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Math homework is due Friday. We have reviewed and commenced some of the questions in class to ensure there would be no "surprises" at home. I explained to students not to do no more than 15-20 minutes of homework and that they should pace themselves each night. Students also know that if they have any questions, that they are to return their duo-tang to school and I will gladly go over their question(s) with them. Hope this helps :)
