Oct 27th - 31st

     Welcome to our 8th week of school. Time has gone by quickly. I am impressed with the level of French your child has learned thus far. Let’s keep up the good work J    French - This week we will continue with our theme on animals. This week we will also go through the writing steps process as we progress with our vocabulary and terminology. It is very exciting to see the progress your child has made. Their first piece of writing will be all about a “weird” animal that they will create and describe for Halloween.   Also, Daily 5/guided reading has commenced. I began last week by demonstrating what is expected of students during this time. Further explanation of this procedure will be given during parent teacher interviews or via e-mail if you are curious as to what takes place. This time essentially provides me the opportunity to read and work with a group of students, while the others are tasked with various activities.  Math - We continue with  mental math strategies up to 2 digits, along with addition and subtraction of 3 digits numbers where the final answer can be as high as 1000. Last week we reviewed our doubles +/- 1, 2 etc. This week we will practice addition with a number line. As always, we continue to practice numbers orally up to 100. Students have caught on quickly and are all doing well. We continue to practice every day during our morning routine and math classes. Reminders:- Reading is to occur nightly. - Reading bags are to be returned daily- Please sign your child’s agenda to let me know you have reviewed homework- Memo concerning Halloween was sent home last Thursday. Let's have a great week! June 16th

    Welcome back!I would like to personally thank all of you for making this a successful year/transition for your child in French Immersion. June 9-13th

   Welcome back to our second last week in 3Glazier! I would like to remind folks at home that we will be travelling to the Bouctouche Dunes this Thursday. Buses will be departing from school at 8:30 and returning sometime around 1:30 p.m. It seems that Mother Nature is on our side thus far J  French – It seems that our “green screen” computer is experiencing technical difficulties at the moment. I hope to have the issue resolved by the end of the week so we are able to film our year end video. Throughout the week, students will complete various oral and written activities to summarize our academic year together.  Math ­– Wednesday, students will write their final test math test on “Probability.” As mentioned, the remained of our time will be spent reviewing major concepts/key skills. Science – We will look back at our earthworm experiment and see what our worms have been up to the last 2-3 weeks in their homes. This will serve as our final experiment of the year relating to our “Soils” unit.     Reminders:   - Field trip to Bouctouche Dunes. Please dress appropriately. A notice concerning electronics will be sent home prior to Thursday.- Next Monday will be my final posting of the year. Let’s have a great week! June 2nd-6th

    Welcome back to another week in 3Glazier! Students are reminded to return their library book by Thursday. The librarian will be completing her inventory next week. French - Students will be reviewing and finalizing their year-end novel this week. I am also in the process of completing individual running records for their reading in preparation for report cards. It is great to see the gains that students have made throughout the year. Math ­- We will complete our last unit on “Probability” this week. The remainder of our time will be spent reviewing the big concepts taught this year.  Science - We will take a look at “Spectacular Structures” this week as we explore the 7 Wonders of the World. Upon completion, students will be tasked with creating a structure of their own and describing the characteristics before and after completion.  Reminders:  - Library books returned by Thursday- Field trip to Bouctouche Dunes next Thursday, June 12thLet’s have a great week! May 26-30th

    Welcome back to another week in 3Glazier! “Go for 42” continues this week at St. Andrews. Please refer to the school’s website for Week 3 information. French - Students continue to work on their year-end novel. Last week, students completed their 10th page.  This week we will review structures pertaining to our neighborhood and various points of interest throughout Miramichi.   Aside from our year end book, students will also begin a book study based on a book chosen both between myself and student. Upon agreement, students will be tasked with discovering who the main characters were, setting, what occurred, etc. Math ­- We are well underway into our last unit in math. Probability and graphing had been introduced last week. Students will be working with bar charts and pictograms this week. We will take time during our Science class as well to explore for bugs and insects outside in order to count and create tallies based on our observations in order to create a graph and compared results. I look forward to seeing what students are able to find. Many in class have expressed excitement in going outside as well. Science - Due to last week’s inclement weather we were unable to go outside and conduct our earthworm experiment. Tuesday’s weather looks fair, thus we will be going outside to gather worms and layer our soils in clear plastic pop bottles. Students will also learn new vocabulary pertaining to soil and plant growth. Reminders:  - There are no reminders this week :) Let’s have a great week! May 20th-23rd

     Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful long weekend. Only 4 ½ more weeks remaining in the school year for students.  Today, students enjoyed the musical Shrek at J.M.H. The production was fantastic! Students were well behaved and enjoyed the show  JFrench - We continue to review our units covered throughout the year as we write our year end souvenir book. We are currently working on our 10th page. We will take time this week in art class to design and draw their pictures as well.Math ­- We will have our unit 6 (Geometry) test later on this week, and move on to our last unit of the year.  For the next 3 weeks students will be learning about probability and graphing. Please continue to refer to Learn Alberta in my “links” sections for enjoyable math games pertaining to the units covered in class.Science - Bridges were the topic of discussion last week in class. We also took the time to plant wild flower seeds as we also began to explore plants and their life cycles. This week, we will go further and incorporate sols into the “mix.” Students will collect earthworms to be placed into various types of soil and see how each make out. Various groups will be tasked with ensuring that our worms are well fed and watered as well over the next month. In the end we will use the soil compositions to test for porosity, texture, etc. and how each holds up in relation to benefiting structures i.e. foundations and plant life.Reminders:- Scholastic orders for May will be sent on the 23rd-  Reading to occur nightlyLet’s have a great week! May 12-16th

      Welcome back! A reminder that Spell-a-Thon pledge money is due Wednesday. Our school Spell-a-Thon will take place Wednesday morning at 8:30 in the gymnasium. Please note that April/Mayclass  pictures will also be posted this week. French - We continue to draft our final year end souvenir book. Our review this week will focus on our Family unit.  Thus far students have written 6 pages. We will also use our time to review and make corrections up to this point. Math - We continue to explore our geometry unit. This week students will describe the “characteristics” of various “solids.” We will review the following terms: face, arête, sommets, base, prisme, pyramide, et polygone. Science - Students will explore the characteristics of Bridges. Students will be tasked with the challenge of building their own as a group with materials found in class.  They will need to incorporate the various aspects learned thus far i.e. supportive foundation, arches, postes. Reminders: -       School Spell-a-Thon in the gym Wednesday a.m. -       Scholastic orders due Friday, May 23rd. -       Continue to check and sign agendas J Let's have a great week. May 5th-9th

    Welcome back! We have another fun filled week ahead of us. We will be celebrating Music Monday today in the gymnasium. French - We will commence our review of our themed units covered since September and begin to draft our final year end assignment. This project will covered much of the remaining time we have together. Students will have a nice souvenir to bring home once complete.Math - Unit 8 test will be sent home today to be signed and returned. For the next 2 weeks we will be studying geometry.  This is always a fun hands-on unit. Later on in the week we will be building various “solids” with materials I have collected i.e. toothpicks, marshmallows, Play-Doh, straws, etc.Science – This week we will talk about what a structure is and the various parts that make up and support structures. We will also discuss how structures are supported and ways to reinforce them if need be. Students will be tasked with building a tower using the concepts and strategies taught in class.Reminders: - Spell-a-Thon continues- Reading is to occur nightly- May Scholastic order will be sent home Tuesday. April 28-30th

    Welcome back. A reminder that there will be no school on Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd due to Subject Council Days.French - We will continue with our Daily 5 routine this week and move on to identify specific vocabulary pertianing to playgrounds. Next week we will begin to review materail covered since September and commence our draft for our year end book. Math - We completed our multiplication and division unit last Friday. We will use our time Monday and Tuesday to review and prepare for our unit test Wednesday. Geometry will be our next unit of study. This unit will tie in nicely with our upcoming Structures and Materials unit in Science.  Science - We have completed ouf study of Health and will now be moving to Science. For the next 3-4 weeks students will be learning about structures and the various materails used and forces applied in bulding and maintaing them. A reminder if you have any newspapers and/or flyers at home to please send them with your child. We will utilize them to build a tower as a final project. Reminders:- Spell-aThon tocommence next week.  An information sheet will be sent home Tuesday.- Reading is to occur nightly- Continue to check agenda. Send notices in your child's agenda if you require assistance, after school pick-up, etc.Let's have a great week. April 22nd-25th

      Welcome back to another week in 3Glazier. Students had many great stories to share with the class relating to their Easter break. French - We will continue with procedural writing this week. Students will continue to develop their vocabulary and incorporate new transitional words into their writing pieces. As always, our Daily 5 routine will continue. Students have many great gains, and I look forward to reading with a new group of students daily to aide with their fluidity, prediction, and comprehension skills. Math - This week we will move on to cover division seeing that we spent the last two weeks going over multiplication. My goal is to administer their test next Wednesday. Please note that there is no school for students next Thursday and Friday due to teacher meetings. Feel free to contact me if you would like to request extra work for your child to practice at home. Health - We will wrap up our health unit this week. I plan to review material covered to date. Next week we will commence our Structures and Materials unit in Science. ***If you have any newspapers/flyers lying around at home, could you please send them to school with your child? As a final project, students will be tasked with building a “tower.” Reminders:  -     Read nightly  -    Sign and return agenda/read bag to school.

April 14-16th

          Welcome back! This will be a 3 day week. Thursday is a Professional Learning Day for teachers and Friday is Good Friday. French - Last week students wrote a procedural writing piece on gingerbread men. Today in class we enjoyed gingerbread cookies during recess break. Easter will be our theme this week. We will learn new vocabulary, create an art project, and write a short story.    Math - We continue to learn about multiplication. This week we will focus on the fact that multiplication relates to repeating patterns Students have learned to following vocabulary thus far: group, élément, produit, fois, and matrice. Health - Our 5 senses will be explored this week. April 7th-11th

          Welcome back! The month of April is upon us. I look forward to the many activities we have planned. French - This week’s focus will be on our Neighborhoods. We will discuss where we live, situate our house in relation to school, describe how we arrive to and from school, as well as identifying nearby locals such as the park, restaurants, etc.  We continue to have authentic discussions, written work, and reading time surrounding each theme. Math - Monday students will write their unit test on Measurement. Once corrected, they will be sent home to be signed. On Tuesday, we will commence our multiplication and division unit. Uncompleted work will be sent home if need be. If anyone is interested in supplemental work for your child, please send me a note and I would be more than happy to send some in their reading bags. Health - We will commence our new unit in Health this week. We will review “Bucket Filling” then move on to describe ways to make our community a healthier and safer place to live and work. March 31st-April 4th

     Welcome back! Parent-teacher interviews that have already been scheduled twice so far will now take place Thursday, April 3rd from 5:30-7:30. A notice will go home Wednesday.French - Reading and writing will be the order of business for the remainder of the week. We will be wraping up our unit on "Seasons." Daily 5 work will continue as well. Please ensure your child continues to read at home each night.Math - We will be finishing our unit on Measurement this week. Friday we will spend time reviewing material covered to date. Next Monday students will write their unit test. Social Studies - We still have 4 remaining groups to film before we can conclude our unit. Next week we will commence our Health unit.Reminders:- Parent-teacher interviews Thursday, April 3rd.
