I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving.  This is going to be a short week but here are some important things to remember.  There is no school on Tuesday, Oct. 9th.   *  In Literacy and for homework this week, we will be working with the letter A a.  Isn't that Awesome!  The letter A a is a very hard working vowel because it says two sounds.  The long A sound says it's own name and can be found in words like acorn, aim, angel, ape, April, and apron.  The short A sound is the sound Ally Alligator says in Zoo Phonics and can be found in words like act, actor, add, alligator, apple, Africa, athlete, and ax.  *  We are still working hard on our writing as well.  Students love to write stories.   *  In Math, we will be finishing up Patterns.     *  Scholastic Book Orders for October are due on Friday, Oct. 12th.           *  It's Fire Prevention Week so please take the time to review your escape plan with your family.  We have been practicing our fire drill at school.

Here are a few things happening this week.   *  In Literacy, we will be working with the Zoo Phonics letters, beginning with the letter S s.  There are so many things that begin with the letter S s, such as Sammy, snake, smile, silly, song, Sally, and super.  We will also begin Show and  Tell on Fridays so this week, students can bring in something that begins with the /s/ sound.  Happy hunting!     *  In Math, we are still working on Patterns.   *  We have Library on Mondays so please ensure your child's Library book is in its proper bag and returned on that day so they can check out a new one.     *  The Scholastic Book Orders for October will be sent home this week for you to browse through.  They will be due back on October 12th.       *  Thanksgiving weekend is coming up so there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, Oct. 8th.  There is also NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, Oct. 9th due to Professional Learning Day for teachers.

Here are a few things to remember for this week:    *  In Literacy this week, we are working on compound words.  For homework, students will continue to practice printing their names plus an activity on Patterns.  You will find this in the red duotang.      *  In Math, we will continue with Patterns.     *  On Wednesday, Sept. 26th, it's Picture Day so don't forget to bring your best smile.   *  Our Grandparents Day Celebration is on Friday, Sept. 28th in the school gym from 10:00-11:00.  Grandparents and parents welcome!

We have been practicing the following Grandparents Day Introduction so I would like for you to practice with your child at home too.        "It's Grandparents Day And we're here to say, We love our Grandparents in a major way! So sit right down and take a seat. We'll put on a show that can't be beat."

There has been some confusion over the two duotangs that have been sent home.  The red duotang is for Homework and the yellow duotang is for Sight Words.  The red duotang is sent home on Mondays and collected on Fridays.  The sight word duotang can stay home and the activities in it are for you do do with your child, IF you choose too.  This is not extra work to do at home to be sent in.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school.   Here are a few things to remember this week.    *  In Literacy, we will be working on Rhyme Awareness.  This will be so much fun because there are so many things that rhyme.  We have been reading rhyming books in class.   *  In Math, we are working on Sorting with sorting rule and working on Patterns.  An activity sheet will be sent home this week with some follow up activities to do with your child to reinforce what we are learning in the classroom.  Have fun!   *  Remember that we have Library on Mondays so all books should be returned then so a new one can be checked out.     *  On Tues., Sept. 18th, we will have a Bus Evacuation and learn about Bus Safety.       *  Scholastic Book Orders are due on Sept. 21st.

We had a wonderful first week of school and when we were all together as one big group, the day went very well.  On the first day of school I wore my hair down but on Friday, I wore it up.  One student asked me if I was the same Mrs. Allison that was at school the day before, just with my hair up.  I thought that was so cute that I had to share it.   Here are a few things happening this week.   *  In Literacy, we will be working on Word Awareness.  We also have been learning the signals and sounds of Zoo Phonics.  Homework will be sent home this week.  Each student will practice printing their name every night.   *  Our class will be visiting the Library on Mondays each week throughout the year.  Students will have a Library bag that their book much stay in when they are not reading it.  Please make sure the library book returns each Monday in order to get a new one.       *  Tuesday, Sept. 11th - Meet the Teacher/Open House from 6:00 - 7:30 in the school cafeteria.   *  On Friday, Sept. 14th at 10:30 am, we will be going on a Terry Fox Walk.  We will be leaving shortly after recess is finished and walking to the Rodd and back.  Students are encouraged to wear proper footwear.  If it is raining on Friday, we will walk on Monday, Sept. 17th at the same time.      *  Scholastic Book orders will be going home this week as well.  They will be due back on Sept. 21st.  Here are some of the benefits of ordering from Scholastic:      1. It gets your children excited about reading and helps improve their confidence in reading independently. 2. Teachers earn FREE books and learning materials for their classrooms with Bonus Coupons! 3. It helps you partner with your child's teacher to encourage reading in the classroom and at home.  4. It offers an amazing selection of hot new fiction, award winners and classic titles every month- at the best prices anywhere!  5. Scholastic's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee ensures you will be happy with your purchases.  If not, they offer a full refund.  6. It provides reading levels and book descriptions to help you match books to your child's reading needs, interests and abilities.

I would like to welcome all my students to Kindergarten.  We will have so much fun learning new and exciting things.        Here are a few things to remember or that will be happening over the first couple of weeks of school: *  September 4th – No School due to Professional Learning Day.    *  We have a staggered entry again this year so please check the letter that was sent to you to see when your child starts.  Half the class will start on Wednesday, Sept. 5th and the other half will start on Thursday, Sept. 7th.  Students can come right to the classroom as soon as they get to school.    *  For those parents that will be picking their child up at the end of the day, we ask that you use the Frost Street entrance.  You can wait on the playground until the duty teacher dismisses them at the door.  Please wait for your child on the playground.   *  Sept. 11th - Meet the Teacher/Open House.  All parents and students are encouraged to come.     *  Sept. 28th - Grandparents Day Celebration for K-3.  This will take place in the school gym from 10:00am – 11:00am.   *  1st Day routine – All Kindergarten students will go directly to their classroom on their first day of school.  From then on, all Kindergarten students will wait on the playground until the 8:15 bell rings.  For students in grades 1 through 5, class lists will be posted on the wall outside.  Teachers will meet their students outside at 8:15.  If it is raining, grades 1 and 2 will meet in the cafeteria and grades 3, 4, and 5 students will meet in the gym.
