Happy New Year & Welcome Back!!   Here are a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter M m.  So many words begin with this marvelous letter, such as, music, monkey, magic, mouse, moose, muffin, mittens, and magician.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that begins with the /m/ sound.      *  In Math, we will continue to work on the numbers 1-5 and making combinations of each.   *  We will be having a student intern join us this term.  Her name is Miss Davis and she will be with us each Monday for 3 months and she will then be with us full time for 7 weeks beginning April 2nd.  Please join me in welcoming her to our classroom.

Wow! We made it to the last week before Christmas break.  Here are few things happening this week.   *  We will continue to work on the letter R r for the rest of this week instead of starting a new letter.  Things have been so busy that we didn't get all the letter R r things completed.  We already had Show and Tell for the letter R so we won't be having Show and Tell this week.       *  The Christmas Shopping party will be held on Tuesday for K-2 and on Thursday for 3-5.  If your child is purchasing gifts, please send in a list of names your child will be buying for.     *  We will be having a Polar Express Party on Wednesday, Dec. 19th where we will be watching the movie 'The Polar Express'.  Children can wear their pajamas on that day and hop aboard the train to watch the movie.  We will also be having hot chocolate and cookies.   *  On Friday, Dec. 21st we will be watching a movie with K-2 students in the gym.  Students can bring a snack for the movie.

Here are a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter R r.  So many words begin with this letter, such as, race, rainbow, rocket, rug, ring, raccoon, rabbit, rake, and red.  There will be no paper and pencil homework until the new year, but please keep reading and reviewing sight words on a daily basis.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that has the /r/ sound.     *  In Math, we are still working on the numbers 1-5.   *  Tuesday, Dec. 11th - Christmas Concert in the school gym, beginning at 9:00 am for K-3.  50/50 tickets will be sold and the draw for the Home and School Christmas basket will take place.   *  Thursday, Dec. 13th - Cocoa House in the school gym, beginning at 6:15 pm.  Anyone wishing to take part, please send in the information sheet.  We will also be having a silent dessert auction that will take place in the cafeteria.  The bidding for the auction will begin at 4:30 pm.       *  We have been reading with Mme. Prince's grade 4 French Immersion class since September and to celebrate with our Buddies, we are having a Christmas celebration on Monday, December 17th.  We will be watching a movie and having snacks.  Mme. Prince and I are asking each student to bring in $2.00 so that we can go out and purchase the snacks for the students.  If your child wants to bring in his/her own snacks, they are more than welcome.

Here are few things happening this week.    *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter H h.  Lots of words begin with this letter, such as, honey, horse, happy, handsome, house, hand, hole, and hook.  This will also be the last week for homework before Christmas.  We would like students to continue with daily reading and sight words review.  We will resume homework when we return after the holidays.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so happy hunting for something with the /h/ sound.   *  In Math we are still working on the numbers 1-5.   *  The Christmas Dinner is on Tuesday, Dec. 4th.  The cost of this is $3.50.  Orders are due by Monday, Dec. 3rd.   *  Scholastic Book Orders are due on Wednesday, Dec. 5th.        *  We have skating on Wednesday, Dec. 5th.  All students must have skates and a helmet in order to participate.  Please let me know before Wednesday if your child requires skates and/or a helmet.  The bus will be leaving the school at approximately 8:35-8:40 and arriving at the LBA at approximately 8:45.  Parents are welcome to meet us at the rink to help tie skates.     *  Some important dates in December to remember are:   Tuesday, Dec. 11th - K-3 Christmas Concert in the school gym, beginning at 9:00 am.  The concert for grades 4&5 will begin at 12:30 pm.  The storm date will be Friday, Dec. 14th.   Thursday, Dec. 13th - The Christmas Cocoa House.  There will be a dessert auction taking place before the festivities begin so come early and make some bids.   Friday, Dec. 21st - Last Day before Christmas break.  This is a full day for both staff and students.

*We have skating at the LBA on Wednesday, Dec. 5th.  The bus will leave the school at 8:40 am.  All students need to have skates AND a helmet in order to go.  Those who do not have skates and a helmet will remain back at the school.  Please let me know if your child needs either one so I can get him/her fitted before we go.  Parents are more than welcome to meet us at the rink to help tie skates and join us in some skating.

WOW!  Only a month left until Christmas and we made it through the first round of parent/teacher interviews.  Thank you to everyone who came.  Here are few things happening this week:   *In Literacy this week, we will be working on the letter E e.  Exciting isn’t it?  This letter is a hard working vowel because it has two sounds; short /e/ can be found in words such as elephant, exercise, excellent and Ellie.  The long /e/ says its own name and can be found in words such as enormous, each, eagle, eel, and equal.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun searching for something that starts with the letter E e.     *In Math we are still working on the numbers 1 to 5 and working on different combinations of each.     *Scholastic Book Orders will be going home this week and will be due back on Dec. 5th.  If there is anything that you want to order for your child for Christmas as a present, please send me a little note with the book order and I will keep the order aside for pick up or delivery in a thick envelop.  Books make a wonderful Christmas present!

Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy this week, we will be working on the letter K k.  So many words begin with this letter, such as kid, kiss, kick, kangaroo, and kite.  Show and Tell will be on Thursday this week because there is no school on Friday.  Happy Hunting for something with the /k/ sound.   *In Math, we are working on Unit 2: Exploring Numbers   *The Scholastic Book Fair will take place on November 20, 21, and 22.  It will take place 9:00-11:00 and 12:00-2:00 each day and then on the evenings of November 21st and 22nd from 6:00-8:00 pm.  They accept cheque payable to Saint Andrew’s School, Visa, Master Card and American Express.  There is a ballot at the back the Scholastic flyer for a chance to win $25 in books and $25 for the class.   *November 21st – Report Cards go home.        *November 22nd – Crazy Hat Day.  Students can wear a hat for 25 cents.   *November 23rd - No School

I hope everyone enjoyed their 3 day weekend.  Here are a few things to remember for this week:   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter C c.  You can find this sound at the beginning of care, candy, cat, cute, cuddle, candle, Cassie, Cale, Curtis, Chase, critter, and class.  Show and Tell will take place on Friday so have fun searching for something that has the /c/ sound.     *  This week is National Bullying Awareness Week.  On Friday, Nov. 16th, we are asking all students and staff to wear blue.  Let's all stand up against bullying.         *  Library books are due each Monday.  Please be sure to return your book so you can sign out a new one.

Here are a few things that are happening this week:     *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter N n.  Isn't that neat!  There are so many things that begin with the letter N n, such as, Nate, nose, nice, nest, no, nickel, newspaper, nail, number, nurse, and Nigel.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that begins with the /n/ sound.         *  The Remembrance Day assembly will be on Friday, Nov. 9th in the school gym, beginning at 9:00 am.  Everyone is welcome to attend.       *  Scholastic Book Orders are due on Thursday, Nov. 8th.

Here are a few updates for Wednesday, October 31st:   *  Children can wear their costumes to school on Wednesday if they want to or they can get dressed up before the Halloween Jamboree begins.      *  We will be carving some pumpkins on Wednesday morning.  If you want to donate a pumpkin to the class, please send one in.  Your son or daughter will then take that pumpkin home with them at the end of the day.  We will more than likely be working in groups so everyone will have a chance to carve a little bit.  We will not need more than 4 pumpkins.     *  Because we will not have much time after the Jamboree, we will be having a little Halloween party after recess, at about 10:30.  If you want to be in a little treat you are more than welcome, but do not feel that you have to.

Here are a few things happening this week.   * We are learning about the letter P p this week.  Isn't that perfect?  There are so many words that begin with the letter P p, such as, peguin, pirate, pebble, purse, pocket, paper, plate, pants, page, pickle, and popsicle.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so happy hunting for something with the /p/ sound.     *  In Math, we are still working on more, fewer, and as many as.   *  On Wednesday, October 31st, beginning after lunch recess, we will be having our Halloween Jamboree.  Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school or they can put it on before the Jamboree begins.  We will also be having a little Halloween party after morning recess.     *  Library books are due back on Mondays so please make sure it is in your child's bookbag.

Here are a few things happening this week.   *  In Literacy, we will be working with the letter I i this week.  The letter I i is a hard working vowel because it has two sounds.  The short i sound is the sound of our Zoo Phonics animal, Inny Inchworm and can also be heard in words such as, inch, ill, it, is, in, lick, bit, and dip.  The long i sound says its own name and can be found in words such as, ice, iceburg, idea, rice, hive, smile, and bride.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun searching with something that begins with the /i/ sound.   *  In Math, the kids are learning about more, fewer, and as many as.  They are catching on fast and doing a wonderful job.   *  Interim Reports go home on Wednesday, Oct. 24th so please look for them in your child's bookbag and sign and return the bottom portion.

Here are a few things happening this week.   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter T t.  There are so many things that begin with the /t/ sound, such as, tiger, tow truck, traffic, toys, toothbrush, toothpaste, and transport.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that begins with the letter T. We have also been working very hard on stretching out our sounds for writing.  Keep up the great work.   *  In Math, we are starting a new unit and working with numbers 1-5.   *  We have Library on Monday so please make sure your library book is returned so you can get a new one.
