Here are a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we are working on the letter M m.  Isn't that marvellous?  Some things that begin with this letter are Mya, monkey, mouse, muffin, moose, mail, medal, May, and mittens. Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun searching for something with the /m/ sound.  Remember, Show and Tell is a part of the homework every week.     *  Please remember to review sight words every night.  Also, review upper and lowercase letters if need be and read every night.  Students will become better and more fluent readers.

Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy we will be working on the letter R r.  Some words that begin with this letter are Ryan, Robbie, rabbit, run, radio, race, raccoon, robot, rice, and rainbow.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something with the /r/ sound.   *In Math we are working with numbers 1-5 and will soon be moving on to Geometry and Measurement.   *Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday, January 16th.       *We are still looking for plastic grocery bags.  Please send them in if you have any to spare.

Happy New Year!! Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy, we are working on the letter H h.  Hooray!  Some things that begin with this are horse, honey, hamster, ham, hand, happy, and house.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that begins with the /h/ sound. It will also be Christmas Show and Tell.  Students are allowed to bring in one thing they got for Christmas so show their classmates.   *In Math we are still working on Unit 2: Numbers to 5.  We will soon be moving on to the next unit.   *It is going to be very cold this week.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  Extra socks can be left in your child’s bookbag in case their socks get wet when playing outside.   *I am still looking for plastic grocery bags for our classroom.  If you have any to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy, we are working on the letter E e…isn’t that excellent?!  E e is another hard working vowel because it has two sounds.  Some words that begin with the short ‘e’ are Emmett, Emma, egg, excellent, elbow, elephant, elk, elm, emerald, empty, evergreen, and engine.  Some words that begin with the long ‘e’ are Ethan, eagle, easel, eat, eel, email, emu, equal, and evening.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun finding something that starts with ‘e’.  *On Wednesday, December 10th, we are having the 5th Annual Cocoa House.  This is a fun filled evening that begins first in the cafeteria with a dessert auction.  Bids open at 5:30.  At 6:00 pm, the entertainment begins in the gym where families will sing Christmas songs, tell jokes, play instruments, etc.  Come out and enjoy, and maybe perform, some Christmas joy!   *On Thursday, December 11th, the school choir will be singing at Saint Michael’s Basilica at 6:30.  Again, if you want to be entertained with some Christmas carols, come along.   *Some important dates to remember: Christmas Concert – Dec. 16th at 9:00 am for K-2 and 12:30 for 3-5 (storm date is Dec. 17th) Skating – Dec. 17th Dec. 19th – Last day before the holidays (Full Day)

Here are few things happening this week: *In Literacy, we are working on the letter K k.  Some words that begin with this letter are kangaroo, Kennedy, Kacey, Keegan, kite, kitten, kick, kayak, and kool-aid.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun searching for something with the /k/ sound.     *In Math, we are still working on Unit 2: Numbers to 5.   *On Thursday, Dec. 4th the school cafeteria is having Christmas Dinner, consisting of turkey, potatoes, veggies, milk and dessert.  The cost for this is $6.00.  This will be the only meal served on Thursday.  Please have money in by Wednesday if your child is getting the Christmas Dinner.   *Scholastic Book Orders are going home today and will be due back on Friday, Dec. 5th.  If you would like to buy something for your child as a Christmas gift, please let me know it is a Christmas gift and I will put it aside for pick up at school.       *I am looking for plastic grocery bags.  If you have any extras, please send them in with your child.  Thank you!

Here are a few things happening this week: *In Literacy, we will be working on the letter C c.  The letter C c has two sounds.  Some words that begin with the hard /c/ sound are cat, crown, cuddle, corn, candy, cute, cupcake, and Christmas.  Some words that begin with the soft /s/ sound are cinnamon, cell phone, celery, cent, centipede, circle, city, cylinder, and cyclone.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun finding something that begins with C.   *In Math, we are working on Unit 2: Numbers to 5.  We have been making combinations of 2, 3, and 4.   *On Friday, November 28th, all students can wear their favorite jersey for Jersey Day.   *On Wednesday, November 26th, students in Mrs. Allison’s class can wear their pajamas to school in celebration of reaching 10 minutes in Read to Self.  Congratulations boys and girls!    *Some important dates to remember are:  December 16th – Christmas Concert beginning at 9:00 am for K-2.  The storm date for the Christmas Concert is Dec. 17th at the same time. The last day of school before Christmas Break is December 19th.  This is a full day of school.

Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy, we are working on the letter N n.  So many things begin with this nifty letter, such as, Nigel, nuggets, night, number, nest, nine, ninja, and Nintendo.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so please take a look around your house for something with the /n/ sound.  Please remember that this is part of the weekly homework.   *In Math we are still working on Unit 2: Exploring Numbers.  *The Scholastic Book Fair begins this week.  This will take place in the school Library.  Students will visit the fair with me during the day and make a wish list.  Students can bring money to school if they wish or they can visit with their parents in the evening.   *Report Cards go home on Wednesday, November 19th.  Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on Thursday, November 20th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm AND Friday, November 21st from 9:00 – 11:30 am.  A schedule was sent home on Friday for preferred times to visit.  Please return this to me as soon as you can so I can set you up with an appointment time.  Thanks!   *There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 21st.

Here are few things happening this week: *  In Literacy, we are working on the letter P p.  Isn't that perfect?  There are so many things that begin with this perfect letter, such as, penguin, pepper, pirate, pizza, pepperoni, PK Subban, parrot, plate, pencil, pen, picture, plane, and pie.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting around your house for something that begins with the /p/ sound. *  In Math, we are still working on Unit 2.  The activities on the homework calendar coorespond with what we are doing in class. *  There is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 11th because it's Remembrance Day.    *  Please remember to review sight words every night.  This will help with fluency when your child begins to read.   *  We have Library every Thursday.  Please have your child's Library book in their library bag and returned every Thursday.

Here are a few things happening this week: *  In Literacy we will be working on the letter I i this week. The letter I i is a hard working vowel because it has two sounds. The short i sound is the sound of our Zoo Phonics animal, Inny Inchworm and can also be heard in words such as, inch, ill, it, is, in, lick, bit, and dip. The long i sound says its own name and can be found in words such as, ice, iceburg, idea, rice, hive, smile, and bride. Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun searching with something that begins with the /i/ sound. *  In Math, we are working on more, fewer, and as many as.  The kids are catching on quickly and doing very well. *  Please continue to practice your sight words every night.  I will begin word assessment on the first  words.   *  Scholastic Book Orders will be sent home this week.  They will be due back on November 13th.   *  I posted the skating schedule last week.  Our first skating day is on December 17th.  If your child needs a pair of skates, please let me know well in advance so I can get him/her sized for a pair.  These skates will be loaned out for the season and can then be returned when skating is done.

Here are some things happening this week: *In Literacy, we are working on the letter T t.  Isn’t that terrific!  So many things begin with this letter, such as, tiger, Tuesday, Thursday, tights, truck, trailer, tooth, toothpaste, tummy, train and tugboat.  Show and Tell will be on Friday.  Please bring in something that begins with the /t/ sound.   *In Math, we are working on Unit 2: Numbers to 5.  We have been discussing more, fewer, and as many as. *On Friday, October 31st, students are permitted to wear their Halloween costumes to school.  We will be having a sock hop at lunch time and then having some Halloween fun in the afternoon.  The kids will be able to parade their costumes around to the K-3 classrooms.    *Please continue to practice sight words on a daily basis.   *Picture retake envelopes are due back on Wednesday, Oct. 29th.

Here are a few things happening this week: *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter A a.  This is a hard working vowel because it has two sounds.  We can find the short A a sound in words such as alligator, Allie, apple, actor, add, alphabet, and ambulance.  The long A a says its own name and we can find the long A a sound in words such as acorn, apron, ace, ape, Avery, April, and angel.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so happy hunting for something with the /a/ sound. *  In Math, we started Unit 2: Numbers to 5.   *  Please remember that if your child is absent from school, you must send in a written excuse stating why he/she has been absent.  Thank you for your cooperation. *  Please review sight words every night.  I will begin testing at the end of October on the sight words learned to date.

Here are a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we are still working on the letter S s.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so good luck searching for something that begins with the /s/ sound.         *  In Math, we are working on extending patterns.  We have been working with AB, ABC, AABB, AAB, and ABB patterns.   *  Picture retakes will be on Friday, October 17th.  If your child needs retakes or was absent on picture day, please fill out the form that was sent home.          *  Please remember to reivew sight words every night.

Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy, we will be working with the letter S s.  So many things begin with this sensational letter, such as, Sammy, snake, sneaker, shoe, school, sunshine, shoulder, sweater, shirt, and shovel.  Show and Tell will be on Wednesday this week so have fun searching for something that begins with the /s/ sound.   *In Math, we are still working on patterns.     *It is Fire Prevention Week this week.  Some local firefighters will be in to visit the school on Tuesday and teach us some fire safety tips.        *The October Scholastic Book Orders will also be sent home this week.  Orders will be due on October 16th.       *There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 9th and Friday, October 10th due to Professional Learning Days for teachers.  There is also NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 13th because of Thanksgiving.     *School Photos are due back on October 14th.  If you wish your child to get retakes, please send in his/her envelope and mark ‘retakes’ on it.  Photo retakes will be on Friday, October 17th.

Here are a few things that we are doing this week: *Our September homework will be due on Tuesday, September 30th.  Please send in your child’s black duotang so we can put October’s homework in.  In Literacy, we will be working on Syllables and Alliteration.  *In Math, we are still working on Patterns.  The kids love making patterns! *The 2nd Annual Fun Fall Fair is set for Friday, October 3rd.  Come out and enjoy some fall fun!  There will lots of things for everyone to enjoy.    *Just a reminder to review sight words every night.  We are now on list #4.
