Here are a few things happening this week: *  We have started Unit 2: Whole Numbers in Math and students are working very well.  Please check with your child to see if you saw his/her Unit 1 Math test.  They were sent home last week to be signed and returned. *  Just a reminder that Reading Logs are due every Friday.  Students are to read each night for 15 minutes and log each night. *  Picture retakes are on Friday, Oct. 23rd.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  Here are a few reminders for this week: *  We finished our first unit in Math and the end of unit test is ready to be sent home.  Students can make the corrections and have it signed by an adult and returned back to me.  We will now be starting Unit 2: Whole Numbers.    *  Students are to read for 15 minutes every night and pick an entry log on their grid and write about what it is asking.  Each question should be answered in a complete sentence. *  Scholastic Book orders will be sent home this week. *  We will be doing Reflex Math at school and students can also do this at home.  I will attach the weblink so students can work from home.  Student passwords and information sheets will be sent home with students. **  Please kept the following dates in mind:- Wednesday, October 14th - Blue Jays day.  Please come to school dressed in blue and white.- Friday, October 16th - FundScrip orders are due back- Thursday, October 22nd - Scholastic Book orders are due back- Friday, October 23rd - Picture Retake Day

Reminders for this week:   *  Students must read for 15 minutes each night.  There will be no reading log this week due to it being a short week.   *  Math test on Wednesday, Oct. 7th.  Students have been working on their review.   *  There is no school for students on Thursday, Oct. 8th and Friday, Oct. 9th, as well as, Monday, Oct. 12th.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving!   *  Scholastic Book orders will be sent home with students on Wednesday, Oct. 7th.  They are due back on Wednesday, Oct. 21st.

 Here are a couple of things to keep in mind this week: *  Reading Logs will begin this week as part of your child's nightly homework.  Each night, students are asked to read for 15 minutes and complete a reading log activity listed in their duotang.  I will collect these randomally to be marked so it is very important that your child complete their reading log on a regular basis.   *  Scholastic Book orders are due this Wednesday, September 23rd.  Why Scholastic?  Here are a few of the benefits from ordering through Scholastic: 1. Welcome Back to School and to Grade 5!  Another school year is upon us and we will learn so many new and exciting things this year.  Can you believe that this is your last year of Elementary School?!  Wow!  I have had the opportunity to teach many of you when you were in Kindergarten and now I'm excited to teach you in your final year at Saint Andrew's.  Here are a few things happening on the first day of school: *  In the morning, between 8:00-8:15, students will gather outside on the playground until they are called by their teacher.  Class lists will be posted on the wall outside.  If it is raining, students in grade 3-5 will gather in the gym and students in grades 1-2 will gather in the cafeteria.  Kindergarten students will go directly to their classroom.   *  The school cafeteria will be open for some delicious meals.  Our outdoor play is from 11:30-12:00 and our lunch hour is from 12:00-12:30 (grades 4 &5).  Please be aware that our school is peanut aware and we are asking that students not bring peanut butter or nuts of any kind to school as we have a couple of students will severe peanut/nut allergies.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Here are a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter Y y. Yay!  Some words that begin with this letter are yo-yo, yak, yellow, yawn, yard, yesterday, and yarn.  Show and Tell will be on Thursday this week.       *  In Math, we will continue to work on Unit 3: Geometry and Measurement.            *  There is NO SCHOOL for all Kindergarten kids on Friday, April 24th due to the Teddy Bear Picnic.

Here a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter V v.  Some words that begin with this letter are Vincent, vampire, voice, volume, volcano, violin, vulture, and velcro.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that begins with the /v/ sound.  Remember that show and tell is part of the weekly homework.       *  In Math, we are beginning Unit 3: Geometry and Measurement.       *  On Monday, April 13, we will be attending the Music Festival at JMH.  Our Kindergarten performance is at 9:30 in the theater.

Here are a few things happening this week:   * In Literacy, we will be working on the letter W w.  Some words that begin with this letter are Will, water, weasel, well, weather, whale, Wednesday, waiter, waist, walk, walnut, and walrus.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting around your house for something that begins with the /w/ sound.       *  In Math, we will soon begin Unit 3: Geometry and Measurement.         *  Please remember to read and review sight words each night.  Also, homework is due back each Friday and Library books are due back on Thursdays.

Here are few things happening this week: *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter B b.  Some words that begin with this letter are boy, bear, bubble, bubblegum, balloon, bounce, basket, bumblebee, baseball, basketball, and ballerina.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun finding something that begins with the /b/ sound. *  In Math, we are working on Unit 4: Numbers to 10 and making combinations of each. *  Report cards will be going home on Tuesday, March 24th.  There will be an appointment sheet included for you to fill out for parent/teacher.  Please send this back asap so I can make appointments for parent/teacher interviews on Thursday night (Mar. 26)  and Friday morning (Mar. 27).   *  Please review sight words on a daily basis.  Students should know, by sight, the first 26 sight words so far.  I have completed the assessment on these and will send them home with the report card.  Don't forget to read each night as well.  Every student has a guided reading book in their guided reading bag.  Please let your child read this book to you.

Here are a few things happening this week: *In Literacy, we will be working on the letter L l.  Lots of words begin with this letter, such as, lion, lollipop, lizard, llama, love, like, laundry, licorice, and life.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun finding something to bring in that begins with the /l/ sound.  Remember that this is part of your child’s homework.   *We have a few fun things on the go this week for Winter Carnival.  Here is what is happening on each day: Monday – Pajama Day and bring your favorite stuffed animal Tuesday – Crazy Hat Day Wednesday – Crazy Hair Day, Pink Shirt Day, AND 100th Day Celebration (K-2) Thursday – Dress up Sports Day & Teacher vs. Student floor hockey game Friday – Pancake Breakfast for students & Backwards Day   *As mentioned, Wednesday is our 100th Day of School Celebration.  We will have our celebration in the gym and do so many fun and exciting things related to 100.  Students were also asked to make a project displaying 100 things so they can display it when we do our parade of projects.     *Remember that our March Break is from March 1st to March 8th.  I hope you all have a fun and relaxing break.  Try to read each night and review your sight words.

Here are a few things happening this week:   *In Literacy this week, we are working on the letter U u. This vowel works very hard because it has two sounds. The short /u/ sound begins with words such as under, unzip, and umbrella. The long u says its own name and begins words such as, unicorn, unicycle, and university. Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun finding something that starts with the letter U u.     * In Math, we continue to work on numbers to 10 and making combinations of each.   * Both kindergarten classes will be going skating on Wednesday, Feb. 18th. Kids must have skates and proper helmet to participate.         * On Friday, Feb. 20th all students will have a chance to try some poutine rapee or chicken frico at our kitchen party.

Here are a few things happening this week:    *  In Literacy, we are working on the letter O o.  This is a hard working vowel because it has 2 sounds; the sound like Olive Octapus, in words such as olive, oven, omelet, otter, and ostrich.  The long O o says its own name and can be found in words such as open, oak, obo, snow, boat, go, and oval.  Show and Tell will be on Thursday this week because there is no school on Friday.     *  Wednesday, February 11th - Valentine's Day meal in the cafeteria.   *  Our Valentine's Day celebration will be Thursday afternoon.  This is when we will hand out our valentine's to each other.  We will also have a little party.  Happy Valentine's Day!   *  There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, February 13th.  It is a PD Day for teachers.  Enjoy your long weekend.

Here are few things happening this week: *In Literacy, we are working on the letter G g.  Isn’t that grand?  This letter has two sounds because sometimes it sounds like the letter j.  Some words that begin with this great letter are gorilla, goat, gum, gym, giant, goose, garage, gate, and groundhog.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting around your house for something that begins with the /g/ sound.   *In Math, we are working on numbers to 10.  See how many numbers you can find around your house.    *Our Kindergarten class is going snowshoeing on Wednesday, February 4th, on the school grounds.  Please make sure you are dressed appropriately with snow pants, jacket, hat, mittens, and boots.

Here a few things happening this week:   *  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter D d.  Doesn't that sound delightful?  Some words that begin with this letter are deer, donut, dance, danger, dog, dig, daisy, dice, doll, dinosaur, doctor, and dunkaroos.  Show and Tell will be Friday so have fun searching for something that begins with the /d/ sound.  Remember that Show and Tell is part of our homework.   *  In Math, we are working on Unit 4: Numbers to 10.   *  Please remember to review sight words and read every night.  This will help everyone become better and more fluent readers.  I will send home your child's sight word assessment this week.
