Well, we survived our first week and 2 days into the next.  We are all settling in nicely. Here are few things happening this week: *  For homework this week, I would like each student to practice printing his/her name each night, as well as having someone read to them.  You can log what you read on the log sheet provided.  Students can also practice reading the book "A Fireman", reinforcing the sight word 'a'.  Sight Word duotangs have been sent home as well.  These can stay home so students can practice them nightly.  The activities at the end of the book are just suggestions for you to do with your child at home so they can learn their sight words.  They do not have to be sent in. *  In Literacy this week, we are working on Word Awareness.  We will look at some poems and count how many words are in each line.  For practice, we have been clapping out the words and counting them. *  In Math, we are working on Unit 1: Patterns. *  We had our first lockdown practice today and everyone did very well, especially the first time.  On Thursday we will have our first fire drill.   *  Several notices have been sent home this week.  Please make sure to fill them in and send them back to school with your child.

Welcome Back to a brand new school year!!  I hope everyone has a nice, relaxing summer vacation. Here are a few important things to know about the first day of school and the first week:* On Tuesday, September 3rd, we have a staggered entry for all Kindergarten students.  Half the class will come on Tuesday and the other class will come on Wednesday.  Please refer to the letter that was sent home to see which day your child comes.  All Kindergarten students can come in to their classroom on those days.  After the first day of school, all students will wait on the playground until the 8:15 bell rings. ** For the rest of the school population, all class lists will be posted outside on the building.  Students will wait outside on the playground until their teacher comes and calls out his/her list.  If it is raining, all students in grades 1 & 2, will go to the cafeteria to wait for their teachers.  All students in grades 3, 4, & 5 will go to the gym to wait for their teacher. *  For Kindergarten students, I will be sending home information about how the Kindergarten day runs.  Please read through and if you have any questions at all, please feel free to call me at school at 778-6081.  I post a lot of things on my web page throughout the school year so I encourage you to check the page out whenever you can.  It's a great way to see what your child is doing at school.   *  The cafeteria has undergone some changes so the menu will not be available right away.  I will send it home as soon as I get it. *  The Saint Andrew's Parent/Student Handbook is available on our school website for everyone to read.  Please let me know if you need/want a hard copy. I am looking forward to another new school year!!  We will have so much fun!
