Week of Oct. 27 - Nov. 1

Posted: October 27, 2013

Here are a few things happening in our classroom this week:   *In Literacy, we will be working on the letter I i.  This is another hard working vowel because it has two sounds.  The short /i/ sound can be found in words such as, igloo, ill, pill, chill, iguana, illusion, infant, pick, and sick.  The long ‘i’ can be found in words such as, Isaac, ice, ice cream, I, iris, Ireland, Irish, iron, and island.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun finding something that begins with the /i/ sound.       *In Math we are still working on Unit 2: Numbers.  We have been learning about more, fewer, and as many as.  We have been doing all kinds of hands on activities for this and the kids are really enjoying it.       *On Wednesday, October 30th, we will be carving some pumpkins in our classroom.  If you would like to donate a pumpkin to carve you can bring it in any time before Wednesday.  If you would like to come in and volunteer to help carve the pumpkins, you are more than welcome.  We are looking to carve 4 pumpkins so we would need at least 3 volunteers so we could put four kids in each group and have four groups.       *On Thursday, October 31st, we will be having our Halloween Celebration for the kids.  This will take place in the gym, beginning at approximately 12:45 for the K-3 wing and later on for the 3-5 wing.  The kids will be doing activities such as a parade of costumes, Zumba, and minute to win it games.  Your child may wear his/her costume to school but if there is a mask, they will only be allowed to wear that during the Halloween Celebration.   *Our school Library is closed until further notice so we will not be able to take out books until it reopens.  Thank you for your patience.
