Happy Saint Patrick's Day!  I trust you had a wonderful weekend! This week we will continue to work on comprehension strategies in French class, as well as review a few key sounds from the first of the year.  We practiced our words from last week today and the quiz is first thing in the a.m. (the words were: feu, autre, regarde, combien, faire, ont, drôle, étais, fois & entrer.)   We will begin procedural writing, giving simple directions on how to do something.  Reading every day is crucial to your child's progress in both English and French. In math, we are getting right into our multiplication unit.  We have looked at equal groups (des groupes égaux), using/drawing arrays  (des matrices) and tricks for the facts 0x?=,1x?=, 2x?= & 5x?= (up to 5x5=25).  We are now looking at the real world applications for multiplication and how multiplication is related to repeated addition.  We will be doing lots of practice questions to make sure your child has a good understanding of multiplication before starting division next week.   It's going well!In Health class we continue to look at Canada's Food guide to discuss healthy eating habits as well as other healthy habits. In Social Studies we will be starting a brochure about our province of New Brunswick to show what we have learned about it so far.Homework: Math sheets Tuesday and Thursday, Daily reading (recorded on log sheet), and the new spelling words for this week will be (plusieurs, grosse, descend, allons, regardons, peut, disent, avait, trop)

(Mountains, rivers, ect.)HEALTH: We have started a discussion on healthy habits for living.  Eating right, sleeping enough, doing physical activity, dental hygiene, ect.  We will be looking at Canada's Food guide to plan healthy meals that we like, and to see if we are eating the right amounts from each!?A busy week for us, but glad to be back at it!

Math - I have moved the math quiz to Wednesday as we missed several math classes last week (for hair cutting/Olympic events, etc.) We reviewed all adding and subtracting strategies today, as a class.  Tomorrow we will finish up our review with some individual practice questions while I circulate and conference with each student.  The math sheet we work on in class, will be sent home with any questions students did not get to finish as an optional extra review at home.  Wednesday morning we will have the 'test'.  Thursday we will work on all concepts covered to date through games and activities.French - We continue to read together, read individally, practice spelling words, practice creating sentences and having genuine conversations.  Spelling quiz is on Thursday.Social Studies - We are looking at our neighborhoods, our city, and the attractions in the community (restaurants, parcs, etc.)  We continue to look at the parts of a map, how to read a map & how to create a map.  We focus on things like: the four directions, the legend, to scale and that a map is 'bird's eye view'.I hope everyone has a fantastic, fun & relaxing March break!

Hello again!  It's a short week this week and that means we start off with a math sheet tonight!  It's review for the test which will be held on Tuesday Feb. 25.  This was a large unit on additon and subtraction with lots of strategies and steps to remember so we will spend the week reviewing.  Tonight they may choose any strategy they would like to solve the four questions on the page.  (Watch the signs though, because some are addition and some are subtraction!)In French class we are talking about the equipment on the playground, things we like to play on the playground and things we like to do in our communities.   This ties in with Social Studies, as we are looking at & drawing maps for our playground, school, homes, etc.  We will discuss legends required for maps while we work on this.*Book orders are due Feb. 24.*Friday, myself and a couple of other teachers will be cutting off our hair and collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society.*Keep an eye on the Olympics, Canada is doing amazing things & our class country of Norway is doing fantastic too!

The sheet tonight is just practicing math strategies (the same three I posted a couple weeks ago - scroll down) This time with 3 digit numbers.  The word problem at the bottom of the sheet was explained in detail what it meant and it is something easy for them to read and understand, there should be no misunderstanding the language for them so please do not translate it.  I would like to see if they could understand.I wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day!  Stay safe in the snow storm and have a good weekend!

I have attached a PDF file of an example subtraction question using the first strategy we have practiced in class. Some students may be comfortable subtracting without the chart/drawing but I recommend trying a few questions this way, if they are struggling.  We will explore more strategies this week.

Welcome back for another week!  We drew countries for each class to follow during the winter Olympics and we got NORWAY!  We will be making flags and preparing for the opening ceremonies on Friday. This week in: French: We continue with Daily 5 (Reading independently, with a partner, with the teacher, working on writing and spelling & listening to stories.)  We work on various reading strategies every week, so daily reading at home in a must! Social Studies:  We will be looking at our neighborhoods and how far away we live from the school.  We will look at maps and use Google Maps Street View to take a look around and get an idea of some distances we travel every day. Math: We are finishing up our addition and subtraction unit.  It seems like we have been on this unit forever because we started it before the Christmas break and don’t move on until we really have a good understanding.  We are getting there and by the end of the week I should have idea of when the unit test will be.  Practice makes perfect, so there will be questions Tuesday and Thursday this week.  Do your best! Estimate, choose a strategy, calculate, and check your answer with your estimation. * I will try to scan an example question for the new strategy tonight or tomorrow for parents (as I know the ‘new’ math can be confusing at times) Here’s to a great week!

It is already the end of January and we have had 88 days of classes!  Time sure does fly! This week in French, we are discussing the four seasons and the activities we like to do in each.  (Last week some students asked if they could bring in a photograph of them participating in their passtime, in order to complete their page in our class book "Les passe-temps de 3C".  These are due Wednesday. As always we are continuing with Daily 5.  We use the pictures in a book, the context (what it's about), the letters/sound chunks/familiar words inside more difficult words, and making connections to always do our best reading. This weeks spelling words are: hiver, quand, arbre, neige, fleurs, chaud, saison. This week in Math classes, we are estimating differences, subtracting 2 digit numbers from 2 digit numbers & looking at using mental math strategies to help wih subtraction questions.  As always, we will practice our math facts up to 9+9=18 with a practice quiz next week. For the next few weeks we will begin to discuss healthy habits for life in health class. (physical activity, four food groups, getting enough sleep, etc.)Homework: Math sheets Tuesday and Thursday this week.  Reading each night, and don't forget to record the title of the book on your log sheet.  If you're child needs an extra log sheet, tell them to let me know or jot a note in their agenda.* Friday is electronic day (see note below)*Don't forget to bring super healthy recess snacks for our Mango Mania challenge!

Tonight's math sheet is a review of the relationship between addition and subtraction.  We went over this in class today.  Fill in the missing number for all questions.  Number 1 requires a picture to represent the equations as well.  Numbers 3 & the extra on the bottom are bonus questions.  Have a great night and weekend!!Mme Comeau
