National School Library Day is on Monday, October 24th.  On this day, to celebrate, we are asking students to dress up like their favorite character in a book.  Some examples are Dr. Suess, Junie B. Jones, Harry Potter, etc.  Be creative and we hope everyone takes part.

Here are a few things to remember this week:     *  For homework this week, we are beginning the letter 'S' so there are a few sheets related to this letter.  There is also a sheet to practice the number 2.  Remember to read or get read to every night and log it.  This week you will get a paper book called "A Fireman".      *  There will be a note in your child's homework explaining the letter of the week.  Each week we will introduce a new letter and at the end of the week, your child can bring in something for Show and Tell that begins with that corresponding letter.  For example, this week we will be working on the letter 'S' so your child can bring in something that begins with the /s/ sound.  Happy Hunting!  This week Show and Tell will be on Thursday because there is no school on Friday.   *  There is no school for students on Friday, October 21st.  Curriculum Implementation Day.  I hope you enjoy your day off.          *  I won't be in the classroom on Wednesday, October 19th because I will be at District Office for training.  Mrs. Burns will take over for the day.

We are having a Halloween Jamboree on Oct. 31st in the school gym.  Students are allowed to bring their costume to school and put it on after lunch.  They are not allowed to wear it to school.  Any parent(s) that would like to volunteer to help students with their costumes, you are more than welcome to come to the classroom at 12:30.  Because it is Halloween, we will have a party in the classroom after the Jamboree.  Happy Halloween!!

I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend.  Here are a few things happening this week:      * This week I would like you to continue practice tracing and printing your name, read the paper book 'Thanksgiving Dinner'each night, and practice printing the number one.            *  It's Fire Prevention Week.  Students will have a short assembly in the gym with some local firemen.  The kids always get excited to see what a fireman looks like, dressed in their full gear.              *  Interim Reports go home on Friday, October 14th.           *  Scholastic Book orders are due on October 13, 2011.

We are finishing up patterns in Math.  Students really enjoyed learning about patterns with Cookie Monster so I thought they would like to continue to enjoy the site at home.
