No School Today due to Professional Learning Day for teachers.

Posted: September 3, 2012

I would like to welcome all my students to Kindergarten.  We will have so much fun learning new and exciting things.        Here are a few things to remember or that will be happening over the first couple of weeks of school: *  September 4th – No School due to Professional Learning Day.    *  We have a staggered entry again this year so please check the letter that was sent to you to see when your child starts.  Half the class will start on Wednesday, Sept. 5th and the other half will start on Thursday, Sept. 7th.  Students can come right to the classroom as soon as they get to school.   *  For those parents that will be picking their child up at the end of the day, we ask that you use the Frost Street entrance.  You can wait on the playground until the duty teacher dismisses them at the door.  Please wait for your child on the playground.   *  Sept. 11th - Meet the Teacher/Open House.  All parents and students are encouraged to come.     *  Sept. 28th - Grandparents Day Celebration for K-3.  This will take place in the school gym from 10:00am – 11:00am.   *  1st Day routine – All Kindergarten students will go directly to their classroom on their first day of school.  From then on, all Kindergarten students will wait on the playground until the 8:15 bell rings.  For students in grades 1 through 5, class lists will be posted on the wall outside.  Teachers will meet their students outside at 8:15.  If it is raining, grades 1 and 2 will meet in the cafeteria and grades 3, 4, and 5 students will meet in the gym.

Here are a few things to remember this week:   *  In Literacy, we are working on the /ai/ and /ay/ sounds.  It says the same sound but we usually see /ai/ in the middle of words and /ay/ at the end of words.     *  In Math, we are working with numbers 1-10.   *  On Wednesday, June 13th we will be visiting the Chatham Public Library.  We will be leaving the school between 9:30-9:45.  When we are done at the Library, we will be walking to Waterford Green to have a picnic lunch, so make sure your child has a bagged lunch.  If it is sunny, please ensure your child has sunblock.  We will be doing a lot of walking so proper shoes would be a good idea as well.   *  On Friday, June 15th, at 9:30 am, we will be having a school-wide Phys. Ed. class outside in the soccer field.  Dr. Paula Keating and Paul Comeau will be joining us.  Also on this day, we will be having our celebration with our Reading Buddies.

*  In Literacy this week, we are working on the /er/, /ir/, and /ur/ sound.  There will be no more homework for the remainder of the year, but we do encourage everyone to keep reading daily and review sight words.   *  In Math, we are still working on the numbers 6 - 10.   *  On Friday, June 8th, both Kindergarten classes will be visiting Thompson Farm as our first destination.  We will be leaving the school at approximately 9:15 am and returning at approximately 1:15 pm.  Students are asked to bring a snack and drink to have at the farm.  We will be leaving the farm at approximately 11:30 and going to our second destination, Mrs. Schofield's parent's house where we will have BBQ hot dogs and drinks.  We will also enjoy a jumping castle, face painting, cotton candy, and balloon animals.  If it is a hot day, please ensure your child has sunblock.
