With the short week last week, our spelling test was moved to this week. With this week being a short week, as well, we will only be starting our new list tomorrow.  Therefore the quiz will be next Thursday.  That brings us to March break already!!  Wow!(I will post the new list tomorrow.)

Hello again!  It's a short week this week and that means we start off with a math sheet tonight!  It's review for the test which will be held on Tuesday Feb. 25.  This was a large unit on additon and subtraction with lots of strategies and steps to remember so we will spend the week reviewing.  Tonight they may choose any strategy they would like to solve the four questions on the page.  (Watch the signs though, because some are addition and some are subtraction!)In French class we are talking about the equipment on the playground, things we like to play on the playground and things we like to do in our communities.   This ties in with Social Studies, as we are looking at & drawing maps for our playground, school, homes, etc.  We will discuss legends required for maps while we work on this.*Book orders are due Feb. 24.*Friday, myself and a couple of other teachers will be cutting off our hair and collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society.*Keep an eye on the Olympics, Canada is doing amazing things & our class country of Norway is doing fantastic too!

The sheet tonight is just practicing math strategies (the same three I posted a couple weeks ago - scroll down) This time with 3 digit numbers.  The word problem at the bottom of the sheet was explained in detail what it meant and it is something easy for them to read and understand, there should be no misunderstanding the language for them so please do not translate it.  I would like to see if they could understand.I wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day!  Stay safe in the snow storm and have a good weekend!

Back for another week! A fun one too! This week we have Valentine's Day (A class list went home today, for any who need one) and skating on Wednesday. French: We continue to work on various reading strategies, spelling, sounds and comprehension through 'Daily 5.' Everyday we read together, independently and with partners. We practice different sentence structures orally and in our writing each day. Students should read and record 1-2 books (some choose to take extras) in their reading logs each night. Please sign their log once they have read their book(s). Social Studies: We are continuing with our discussions about our surrounding & neighbourhoods while working on map reading & drawing, as well. Math: We are on our last two lessons for subtraction (Using mental math strategies to help find differences and working with 3 digit numbers.) Next week will be reviewing the addition and subtraction strategies and having the unit test late in the week. I have attached a PDF file of an example subtraction question using the first strategy we have practiced in class. Some students may be comfortable subtracting without the chart/drawing but I recommend trying a few questions this way, if they are struggling.  We will explore more strategies this week.
