Welcome back! I would like to thank all the parents/guardians that were able to make it out for parent-teacher interviews.  It was nice to see you all and discuss the many positive things your child has accomplished thus far en français. French - Birthdays and anniversaries will be the topic of discuss this week in class. Students will be reading, writing and speaking with this theme in mind. Furthermore, we will commence learning Christmas holiday vocabulary in class. It is hard to believe, but we are only 4 weeks away until Christmas vacation. We have begun a new holiday themed dictionary in class, and will continue adding to it throughout the week. We will also develop an idea/writing web in order to help us draft a letter to Santa. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. We will also commence Show and Tell “Montre et Raconte” in class this week in order to develop student’s vocabulary, fluidity, comprehension and listening skills. I will demonstrate on Monday and students (alphabetical order) and commence on Tuesday. Montre et Raconte is always a big hit with students, and I look forward to seeing the many surprises students bring to class. Please note that animals/pets are not allowed. Students may bring a picture on their pet if they choose. Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our focus is now on addition and subtraction.  My focus this week will be adding and subtracting of 3 digit numbers. Homework may/may not be sent home depending how much is covered in class. We will also begin to have weekly mini quizes on material covered in class throughout the week. Reminders: -          We are still accepting food items for the Food Bank -          Reading is to occur nightly. Please record on sheet. -          Please sign your child’s agenda to let me know you have reviewed homework. -          “Show and Tell” for students begins Tuesday -          Library Thursday -          Jersey/St. Andrew’s Award’s Day Friday afternoon -          Skating commences December 18th  Let's have a great week! Welcome back everyone! A reminder to parents that parent- teacher interviews will be held this Thursday evening (Nov 21st) and Friday morning (Nov 22nd). There will be no school for students on Friday. Scheduled time notices for parents/guardians interviews will be sent home Wednesday along with their report card. This week is also Bully Awareness Week. Special activites will be held throughout the week to promote awareness.  French - Last week students completed a writing assignment based on their family. Students utilized their dictionary, class word wall and “ideas web” to describe and create a book based on their family. They will remain on display outside our classroom for the remainder of the week then sent home to be read. We will continue to discuss “family” as our theme once again and move on to discuss our birthdays and anniversaries time permitting. Guided reading continues. Please ensure students are reading nightly and recording their books in their record sheets. Again, these are books that have been well rehearsed in class and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete. Math - This week’s focus will be on estimation as part of our 3rd unit in math. Students will enrich their vocabulary in math by learning the following terms: une estimation, estimer, une dizaine, une somme, and environ. Students will apply estimation strategies in order to predict and answer addition and subtration questions. Reminders: -  Parent-teacher interviews Thursday evening and Friday morning -  Reading is to occur nightly -  School Book Fair November 19th and 20th.   Welcome back! I would like to commend students for their attendance and participation in last week’s school Remembrance Day ceremony. The event went off without a hitch and was a special moment for those in attendance. French - We continue to discuss “family” as our theme this week. We will take a look at what members of our family enjoying doing during their spare time i.e. activities, clubs, special events, etc. We continue as well to develop ideas using our writing webs in order to facilitate our descriptive writing assignment about chosen members of our family. We look forward to presenting them soon J  Guided reading continues. Please ensure students are reading nightly and recording their books in their record sheets. Again, these are books that have been well rehearsed in class and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete. Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 100. We will now commence counting up to 1000 as I feel students have begun to master the differences between the 60 and 70 numbers as well as the difference between the 80 and 90’s which can be “tricky” at times. Our focus again will be on the mathematical terms/vocabulary and continue to incorporate written sentences into our responses. Reminders:  - Sign and return parent-teacher interview notice sent home on Friday. - Reading is to occur nightly. Please ensure books are signed and returned. Let’s have a great week. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the Halloween video presentation we sang last Thursday. Students really enjoyed practicing the song. It is hard to believe that we are already into the month of November. Report cards and parent teacher interviews are just around the corner. I look forward to meeting many parents/guardians.   French - We will be continuing our theme on Families. Our objective will be to present the members of our family, describe some of their physical traits, and lastly move on to discuss members of our extended families. We are now into the swing of things with our Daily 5/guided reading sessions. 5 centers have been created (i.e. read to self, read with Mr. Glazier, writing, etc) and students have taken well to their assigned duties. Bravo les amis! You will notice as well that students now have a new reading log sheet in their take home bag. Please ensure that students write down the book(s) they have read on this sheet and place in their bags nightly. Doing so enables me to keep track of their reading and what books may need to be return if forgotten at home. Our school Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Friday. In preparation for this event our class will be creating and painting poppies out of egg cartons. If you are able to send in an empty carton to school by Wednesday it would be greatly appreciated. I have a few of my own to spare.  Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 100. Our focus is now on addition and subtraction.  My focus this week will be on new vocabulary, doubles +/- 1, 2, etc and relationships between addition and subtraction (N.10 of NB math 3 curriculum). Incomplete class work will be sent home as homework.  Reminders:  Reading is to occur nightly. Please record on sheet.November Schlastic is due Friday, November 8th.   Let's have a great week! As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
