We would like to thank all parents/guardians/grandparents/aunts/uncles for making our year memorable.  Having wonderful helpers makes everyone happy.     We would also like to thank Tabatha Canistro and her father, Frank Trevors, and the Home and School Association, for putting on an amazing BBQ yesterday, for students and staff.  The food was delicious.  Thank you so much for your generosity.    We wish all of our students a happy and safe summer.  We will miss you!!

Here are a few things happening on the last week of school:   * Monday, June 20th - Thank You Concert for parents/grandparents, etc., starting at 9:00.  Awards ceremony in the afternoon (for students only).         * Tuesday, June 21st - Sports Day in the morning only.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately as they will be playing sports.  They need to wear sneakers, sunscreen, hat, etc.  Those who did not order pizza for lunch must have a bagged lunch because the cafeteria will not be open.      * Wednesday, June 22nd - Saint Andrew's Got Talent     * Thursday, June 23rd - Movie Day.  K-2 students will be watching a movie in the gym in the morning.         * Friday, June 24th - Last day of school, report card day and half day of school.  We will have a little party for students in the classroom.          *  We will be walking to Carter's store for ice cream on Tuesday or Thursday.  We originally said Thursday but it depends on the weather.  If it shows rain for Thursday and it's nice Tuesday, we will go on Tuesday.  The teacher will be buying the students an ice cream so they do not need money for this.   The year sure did fly by!  We have been through many changes throughout the year, but nothing that we couldn't handle.  We watched your child grow and strive to be the best they could be.  We are very thankful to have had such wonderful kids this year.  Thank you to all parents who helped out or volunteered this year.  We greatly appreciated all of your help.  And to all the kids, we will miss you and we hope you all have a happy and safe summer.

Here are a few things happening this week:   * We are working on the /ou/ phoneme this week.  You can find this sound in words such as ouch, our, sound, out, and cloud.  See if you can think of any more.   * On Wednesday, June 15th, we are going on our class field trip.  It looks like it might rain and if it does, the field trip is still on.  We will provide the students with a poncho if it rains.  Please have them dressed for the weather because we will be outside the majority of the time.  It's going to be so exciting!   * Also on Wednesday, June 15th, the Middle Island Showcase will be held at Middle Island from 6:00-7:00 for parents/family members that are unable to attend the Showcase on Thursday, June 16th.  Students will be bused to Middle Island on Thursday.   * A notice went out about the purchase of pizza slices on the day we will be having Sports Day.  The cost of the pizza is $1.00 per slice.  Students do not have to purchase the pizza...it is your choice.  They can still bring their own lunch if they choose.  The cafeteria will not be open on that day.  The order form and money is due this Thursday, June 16th.  No orders will be accepted after this.

This week we will be reviewing to the /oo/ sound, short and long.  Words with the short /oo/ sound are foot, look, good, and wood.  Words with the long /oo/ sound are boom, balloons, food, and goose.   On Wednesday, June 8, both classes are walking down to visit the Chatham library, weather pending.  Mrs. Schofield's appointment is from 10:30-11:30 and will be leaving the school at 10:10.  Mrs. Allison's appointment is from 12:00-1:00 and will be leaving the school at 11:00.  All students are asked to bring a lunch on that day because we plan to meet at Elm Park at 11:30 to have a picnic lunch.  If it is raining on Wednesday, both classes will be going at the same time on Friday.      Book orders are due on Tuesday.  Remember that this is great opportunity to get some books for summer reading.         If you haven't sent in your son/daughter's permission slip and/or money, please do so before Monday, June 13th.   Friday, June 10th is the last day to order a Kindergarten Memories yearbook.  The cost is $12.00.

Hello everyone.  We are all set for another exciting week at school.  Take a look at the pictures that we posted of our Middle Island clean-up.  Everyone did a wonderful job and we all had fun.  Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to help.   *  We will continue to review different sounds this week.  There is no more homework except for reading.  It is very important to read each night.  This will help with fluency and expression.  Remember to look over your sight words as well.   *  A notice will be going out on Monday about our end-of-the-year field trip.  We think all the kids will be really excited about it so don't forget to look in your child's book buddy bag for all the information.   *  The penny drive continues this week to help raise money for the the Roots of Empathy program.   *  June book orders will also be going out this week.  This will be the last one of the school year and it will also have a short return date to ensure the books are back in time for students to get them before they go home for the summer.  This will be a great time to get some books for your child so he/she can read lots over the summer.     Have a great week!!

Here are a few reminders for this week:   *  We will not be learning a new sound but we will be reviewing our vowels and the sounds they make.  So there will be no Show and Tell on Friday this week.       *  The penny drive is now under way to help raise money for the Roots of Empathy program.  We will be collecting pennies all week.         *  There will be no pencil/paper homework from here on in but students are still asked to do their reading each night.  This will help with fluency and expression.     *  Students who brought in their permission slips for the Go for 42 walks at lunch time are able to participate on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

This week we will be learning about the 'ai' and 'ay' sounds and the both have the same /ay/ sound.  Some 'ai' words are aim, aid, rain, wait, rail, sail, jail, and pail.  Some 'ay' words are way, may, play, day, hay, today, weekday, and essay.  Show and Tell  will be on Friday after recess.  Bring something in that has either 'ai' or 'ay' in it.  An example is a train.     Remember to do your reading every night.  This will help you with your fluency and expression.

Hi Everyone.  Sorry for the tardiness of this week's post.  We have gone through all the letters of the alphabet so we are now learning about diagraphs.  This week we are learning about the 'ch' diagraph.      It was pointed out that there was some confusion over a page in this week's homework.  On the 'Chuggin' Choo Choo' page, the directions should read, "Color the word in each train that begins with the same sound as /ch/".  I hope this clarifies any confusion.   We will be having Show and Tell on Friday morning this week.  So have fun hunting for something that has the /ch/ sound.   Just a reminder that students do not have school on Friday afternoon, April 29th.  Teachers will be involved in some training in the afternoon.
