Here are a few things happening this week:   *  For Literacy homework we will be working on the letter 'Aa'.  This is a hard working letter because it has two sounds, a long and a short sound.  The short /a/ sounds like Allie Alligator and in words like Abby, add, after, active, at, bat, and cat.  The long /a/ says its own name and it can be found in words like cake, ape, age, and aid.  We will have Show and Tell on Friday so make sure you bring in something that begins with the letter 'Aa'.  You will also have to practice making the letter 'a'.  There is also a Halloween beginning letter activity. *  In Math please practice printing the number 3. *  It is also very important to read or get read to each night and to practice your sight words on a regular basis.   * Remember that Monday, Oct. 24 is National School Library Day where students can dress up like their favorite book character.

National School Library Day is on Monday, October 24th.  On this day, to celebrate, we are asking students to dress up like their favorite character in a book.  Some examples are Dr. Suess, Junie B. Jones, Harry Potter, etc.  Be creative and we hope everyone takes part.

Here are a few things to remember this week:     *  For homework this week, we are beginning the letter 'S' so there are a few sheets related to this letter.  There is also a sheet to practice the number 2.  Remember to read or get read to every night and log it.  This week you will get a paper book called "A Fireman".      *  There will be a note in your child's homework explaining the letter of the week.  Each week we will introduce a new letter and at the end of the week, your child can bring in something for Show and Tell that begins with that corresponding letter.  For example, this week we will be working on the letter 'S' so your child can bring in something that begins with the /s/ sound.  Happy Hunting!  This week Show and Tell will be on Thursday because there is no school on Friday.   *  There is no school for students on Friday, October 21st.  Curriculum Implementation Day.  I hope you enjoy your day off.          *  I won't be in the classroom on Wednesday, October 19th because I will be at District Office for training.  Mrs. Burns will take over for the day.

Wow!!  We already finished a month of school and now we are into October.   Here are a few things to remember this week: * Homework for this week is to practice tracing and printing your name, reading the sight word book and record it, and color a pattern.  Please remember that homework is sent home on Mondays and collected on Fridays.  Please work with your child each night on the activities put into the homework duotang.  It is also important to review the sight words on a regular basis.  *  The magazine fundraiser orders and money is due back on Tuesday, Oct. 4th. * We didn’t get to the library last week so that is why students still have the same book.  Books are due back each Thursday. * Picture retakes are on Thursday, Oct. 6th.

Today we went for our Terry Fox walk in support of cancer research.  Before we went we watched a short video about Terry Fox and how he was determined to run across Canada.  On the way back from our walk, two of our classmates had this to say:     * Did we walk past Canada yet? and * We went for our walk and we didn't even see Terry.   I thought these were pretty cute.

For homework this week, I would like everyone to trace and practice printing your name each night.  There is also a new paper book sent home.  We went over it during class.  This book introduces the sight word 'I'.  Don't forget to log the book(s) you read.  For Math, look at the pattern and circle what comes next.      There are a few things to remember this week:   *  Our class field trip is this Thursday, September 29th.  Please send in your child's permission slip and money by Wednesday.  Also, please remember to dress your child for the weather.  The fields will more than likely be wet.  We will eat at the apple orchard so please send a bagged lunch with your child.         *  The Terry Fox walk to Waterford Green will also be on Wednesday, beginning at 12:30 for K-3 students.  We are asking you to make a small donation.       *  Grandparents Day will be celebrated on Friday, September 30th, beginning at 9:00 am.  The Kindergarten grandparents are more than welcome to come back to the classroom to help their grandchild get ready for recess.  Students will have something special to give their grandparent(s).

Hello everyone, Everyone came to school today prepared to smile.  Picture Day was a success...we have a bunch of good looking kids.   Homework for this week includes tracing and printing your name.  Please do this each night.  I have also included a paper book that you and your child can read together.  We read it over in class so some might want to show you how well they can read some of the words.  You can keep this book at home. A Math sheet was also included with some ideas to do with your child at home.   **** The memo about McAllister Farm has a typo and we do apologize for that.  We are going to visit the farm on Thursday, September 29th.  On the bottom part of the memo, it says Sept. 30th but we are actually going on Sept. 29th.  Sorry if this caused any confusion.     *  Scholastic Book orders are due on Wednesday, September 21st.          *  Library books are due back each Thursday.          *  We have our Fundraiser Kick Off on September 22nd so you will find an envelope in your child's bookbag on this day with all the information on our Fundraiser.   I hope you all have a wonderful week.

*  Students will be bringing their Book Buddy Bag home this week.  Please look in the bag each night to see if there are any important notices.  This week we will start a bit of homework.  Each student will have a red duotang for homework.  I would like everyone to practice printing their name each night.  You will find the practice sheet in the red duotang.  Homework is always sent home on Monday and collected on Friday.  You do not have to send the homework back each day but I would like it if you kept the Book Buddy Bag in your child's bookbag, just in case I need to send home a notice.    *  I also sent home 2 Scholastic Book orders this week.  Book orders are due Sept. 21st.  Here are some of the benefits of ordering from Scholastic:   1. It gets your children excited about reading and helps improve their confidence in reading independently. 2. Teachers earn FREE books and learning materials for their classrooms with Bonus Coupons! 3. It helps you partner with your child's teacher to encourage reading in the classroom and at home. 4. It offers an amazing selection of hot new fiction, award winners and classic titles every month- at the best prices anywhere! 5. It provides reading levels and book descriptions to help you match books to your child's reading needs, interests and abilities.  6. Scholastic's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee ensures you will be happy with your purchases.  If not, they offer a full refund.   ** Don't forget about our Open House/Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, Sept. 13th.  You are more than welcome to bring your child along as there will be a supervised movie for them in the gym.  Parents will meet in the cafeteria.

We survived our first week at school and it was a success!!  Students are fitting into our new schedule very well.        Just a reminder that if you see your child's information sheet sent home again, it is because not everything was filled out.  I have highlighted the areas that have to be filled out.  Thanks for your cooperation.
