The spelling words this week are looking at the Long Vowel o  sound. Pattern Words:    bone    note     broke   nose  pole Sight Words:       man     after     them    then  from   In Math we are still practicing our skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s (forwards and backwards) to 100 from different starting points.  To practice at home just ask your child to count out loud for example:  "starting at 25 skip count by 5s to 90".   We have also been counting coins: dimes, nickels, pennies and some have been using quarters.  Have your child count the change you have in your pocket.  This would be good practice as well.

It's hard to believe that we have already been in school for almost two months!  We have such a fantastic class and we have been working together very well.  The following is a list of learning objectives that we have been covering so far this school year.     Math:  We have completed a unit on Data Management (concrete graphs & pictographs, tally marks).  We are now working on the unit Numbers to 100.  We will be learning about ordinal numbers, odd/even numbers and counting forwards/backwards to 100 by 2s, 5s, and 10s from different starting points, using a number line, a hundreds chart, and money.Reading:  We have been working on building our stamina and independence for Daily 5.  So far we have been working on Read to Self, Read to Someone, and now Work on Writing.  We are also doing Guided Reading  and strategies for reading from our CAFE Menu.  Writing:    We are focussing on the 6 traits for writing.  We have been working on Ideas/Content and Organization.  Right now we are having strong "hooks" and beginning sentences.
