Homework: Oct. 6th-8th

Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Thurs. October 9th and Fri. October 10th.   Therefore there will be no spelling words or test this week.  Students will be taking books home to read and record on their log sheet.  This will be the only homework this week. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

Spelling Words

This year in Grade 2 students begin to have spelling words to study each week.  They will be given the words on Monday and will have them for the week at home to practice spelling them.  The spelling test will be each Friday!   Students will also have an opportunity to work with these words in class during Daily 5. The spelling words consist of 5 words that follow a pattern and 5 no-excuse sight words for the end of Grade 2.   This week's words are: PATTERN WORDS:   (short vowel a)  sat    ran    bag   map   jam SIGHT WORDS:    can   and   that   was   have

Class Updates

We are off to a great start in Grade 2. The following is a list of concepts that we have been covering this month: Math:  Data Management Unit  (Interpreting and Creating Concrete/Pictographs) Writing:  How to Choose a Topic  (A Topic in Your Pocket) and                What's the BIG Idea of your story. Literacy:  Introducing Daily 5 into our classroom:  Read To Self You and Your World:   Safety Rules (Bus Safety, Fire Safety, Stranger Safety)   Spelling and Homework will begin next week!

Class Reminders

Here are just a few reminders for this week: * If you have not already sent in the $3.50 for the homework agenda and writing book could you please do so by the end of next week.  Thanks. * There will be an Open House tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 9th) at 6 pm.  Hope to see you there!   Students have begun bringing home a book(s) to read each night.  They should be reading each night and recording the name of the book on their log sheet.  We have not begun Guided Reading as we are doing Running Records on all students to get their current instructional level.  The books students have now are at a level that is one level below their instructional level from June.   Happy Reading!

Welcome Back To School

Last Day Of School

The last day of school on Friday, June 20, 2014 will be a 1/2 day of school with dismissal being at 11:30 am.   Please fill in and return the sheet sent home regarding how your child will be going home on that day.   I want to wish everyone a safe and fun summer!  I think we had a fantastic year and I really enjoyed having each of you in my class!!   Thanks for being such a great class!!!

Field Trip

Our class field trip is this week  (Thursday, June 12th)!!!   Please have permission slips signed and returned as soon as possible.   It is very important to dress for the weather.   We will be outdoors for the whole trip.  Please bring/apply sunscreen,  a bag lunch and $2 if you wish to purchase a snack.   Please check the temperature for the day as it can easily be about 5 degrees cooler along the coast.
