     French - We continue to discuss and write about what makes us unique. Students really enjoy this particular theme.Also, we will undertake a writing activity about Valentine’s Day. Students will be introduced to new terminology and continue to utilize high frequency and word wall words, as well as French dictionaries. 6+1 writing trait mini lessons are also incorporated into our routine prior to any writing activity. This week we will be focusing on “organization” and “word choice” as part of our mini lessons.Guided reading/Daily 5 continues as usual. Students have made great personal gains and continue learn how to incorporate new skills such as prediction, visualization, etc. while reading. While at home if your child is unsure of a word, feel free to write it down on a sticky note and/or write it down in their agenda and we will practice the word(s) and add them to our word wall. As well, please ensure your child records the book(s) they have read each night in the reading log sheet. I have extra copies once their log becomes full.Math - We continue with our 4th unit. This week we will be studying the calendar and seasons as a measure of time. Word problems will also be studied and dissected in order to find key words/phrases. Activity sheets will be sent home as need be. Please notify me and I will send supplementary work in their reading bag if you would like extra practice for your son or daughter. This unit typically is more hands on and students really enjoy the various activities.Social Studies - We continue to learn about the province of NB. This week we will talk about our provincial flag and the differences between cities, towns, villages, bodies of water, etc.Reminders:  - Reading is to occur nightly - Please sign agendas and reading log sheets.      Welcome back. We will continue covering French and Social Studiees material that had been posted last week due to the fact we had missed two days last week due to the weather.French - Aside from last week's material, Monday, February 2nd is also Groundhog Day. We will celebrate the day with an art and writting activity. Art will be sent home the following week after being displayed in the hallway.Math - Patterns test has been corrected and will be sent home to be signed. Please return to school. Monday, we will commence our Measurement unit. Following measurement, we will move on to multiplication and division. Feel free to practice "doubles" math fact at home i.e. 2+2 = up to 12+12 = and +/- 1,2 i.e 2+3..."I know that 2+2 = 4 therefore 2+3 = 5, etc. This will facilitate our upcoming unit in March.      French - We will be commencing a new theme this week. We are moving on from what makes us unique to discussing our favorite activities and pass times. This theme is our 8th within the French Immersion curriculum. Students will learn to say “Je préfère, j’adore, je joue, je fais”, etc and incorporate these structures into their reading and writings as well.Likewise, we continue on a practice our “dictée” (spelling words) throughout the week as well. Each day, students have an opportunity to practice in one of 5 centers created throughout the classroom. Please ensure that students read their take home books nightly to provided them with an extra opportunity to masters their vocabulary, sounds, comprehension, and fluidity. *** If your child is unsure of a word, feel free to write it down on a sticky note and/or write it down in their agenda and we will practice the word(s) and add them to our word wall. As well, please ensure your child records the book(s) they have read each night in the reading log sheet. I have extra copies once their log becomes full.Math – As for this week, we will be using our time to review/go over concepts thought to date in our Patterns unit. Test on Wednesday.Feel free to contact me via e-mail and/or agenda if you would like additional material for your son/daughter to practice at home.Social Studies – This week we will read a book entitled “Je fais le plan de ma class” and review the map students completed last week. My focus this week will be on how to read/understand map legends. My goal is to have students complete a legend of their own by Friday.Additionally, we will continue to utilize Google Maps and Google Earth to explore various locations throughout the city and province.      French - Birthdays and anniversaries will continue be the topic of discussion this week in class. Students will be reading, writing and speaking the following terms: “L’anniversaire de naissance de____ est le_____,” “joyeuse anniversaire”, “je suis né(e) en 2004 ou 2005”, etc.Montre et Raconte continues to be a hit with students. Presenters look forward to presenting their item everyday at 2:30 prior to dismissal. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. Math - we have moved on from ascending patterns to discussing descending patterns and attributes. We continue to master the language in French and incorporate word problems into the mix to promote higher level thinking.We also continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our “Tour du Monde” mental math game has been a success with students in class and they really enjoy learning their +/- facts.Social Studies - We will begin studying “place” this term. Ultimately students will be expected to:1) Locate their province in the Atlantic region, Canada, North America, and the world      2) Describe the major physical features, climates, and vegetation of their province and the Atlantic region3) Examine where people live and how people make a living in their province  This week students will complete a detailed plan/outline of the classroom in order to understand direction and located certain objects in the class. Later, students will learn about cardinal points and how to draw/read a legend in order to create their own map and what need be included. From that point on, we will look at the school as a whole, the City of Miramichi then the province. Throughout the term, we will also take time to utilize Google Maps and discover places throughout the city and province.      Welcome back to another great week in French Immersion. We had a wonderful first week back. I enjoyed listening to everyone’s holiday stories and proud at the fact that everyone quickly pulled up their sleeves and was ready to continue learning in French. Please note that the Social Studies component of the course will be incorporated into our studies. Students will begin to learn about the province of New Brunswick. English classes have commenced as well. My students will be taught by Madame Prince and I will be teaching English to her students.French - Birthdays and anniversaries will be the topic of discuss this week in class. Students will be reading, writing and speaking with this theme in mind. Guided reading/Daily 5 and spelling of high frequency words continues on a daily basis as well. Students have made great gains and are on track with their reading and writing. Please ensure that students read their take home books nightly to provided them with an extra opportunity to masters their vocabulary, sounds, comprehension, and fluidity.  Math - In math, we have begun our unit on Patterns. Students have a good understanding of the concepts thought thus far and we are simply furthering our knowledge by going beyond the objectives of the unit and dig a little deeper with the use of word problems and oral discussions to test for understanding.         Welcome back to another week in 3G! Our daily routine will fluctuate this week due to the many activities planned. Students are invited to wear their pyjama’s or a funny Christmas sweather Friday. They may also choose to bring a teddy or doll if they would like. Also,  myself and Madame Prince are planning on having a class breakfast Friday. A notice will be sent home Monday in regards to the event.  French - This week, we will write a short procedural text about hot chocolate. My goal is to have this short assignment completed by Thursday, so that we can enjoy some hot chocolate and candy canes in class. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. Math- Students will be writing their second unit test of the year. Their test will be sent home to be signed and returned once corrected.  The adding and subtracting unit will be revisited in the spring providing students the opportunity to expand their knowledge even further. We continue to provide support for our answers and learn to write out our answers in French The remainder of our time will be used to review our past 2 units that have been covered thus far. We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our “Tour du Monde” mental math activity has been a success with students in class and they really enjoy learning their +/- facts. Reminders: - Reading is to occur nightly.           Welcome back. We have a busy two weeks ahead of us filled with many fun activities prior to vacation. This week in particular, we will be decorating our classroom door and practicing for next week’s Christmas concert. We have a dress rehearsal Friday and I look forward to seeing students sing. French - We will be wrapping up our Family unit this week, and also finalizing our Santa letters. My goal is to their final copy written by Friday. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. Montre et Raconte continues to be a hit with students. Presenters look forward to presenting their item every day at 2:45 prior to dismissal. Another French teacher came by to visit and was very impressed with their level of French thus far in the year. Bravo mes amis! Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our “Tour du Monde” mental math activity has been a success with students in class and they really enjoy learning their +/- facts. We will finalize our addition and subtraction unit this week by practicing our estimation and subtraction strategies of 3 digit numbers. My goal is to have a review this Friday and unit test next Monday prior to Christmas concert and vacation.   Reminders: - Reading is to occur nightly.      Welcome back folks! With only 3 more weeks of school left until vacation, I would like to remind students to continue reading nightly and also record their books in their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete.Students will be learning many new seasonal words to add to their expanding repertoire. We will be incorporating various words into our writing pieces and songs.Montre et Raconte has been a great success thus far. This activity provides an authentic situation for students to describe, practice, and speak in French. We will continue this activity throughout the year. French - We will be continuing our Family theme this week. Students will continue to add to their journals as we progress.Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 1000 and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding). Our “Tour du Monde” mental math activity has been a success with students in class and they really enjoy learning their +/- facts.I have provided a link on my page from “Learn Alberta” to assist student with various math activities. I would suggest taking a look at the addition and subtraction tabs from the main menu for this week if students choose to partake. I realize students/parents will not understand all the language on the site, but the math fundamentals are still the same J Estimation and subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers will be our focus this week.  Incomplete review sheets will be sent home.       Welcome back! I would like to thank all the parents/guardians that were able to make it out for parent-teacher interviews. It was nice to see you all and discuss the many positive things your child has accomplished thus far in French. We will be skating this Wednesday at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink. Our scheduled ice time is from 8:45 until 9:45. Students require a helmet. If you child does not have their own pair of skates or a helmet, please let me know as we have extra skates and helmets at school. Parents/guardians are also permitted to skate with us. French - Aside from continuing with our Family theme, we will be learning Christmas holiday vocabulary in class. It is hard to believe, but we are only 4 weeks away until Christmas vacation. We will also develop an idea/writing web in order to help us draft a letter to Santa. Please ensure reading occurs nightly and that students are recording their books into their reading logs. I have extra copies in class once their first sheet is complete. Student Show and Tell a.k.a Montre et Raconte will commence this week. It is always a big hit with students, and I look forward to seeing the many surprises students bring to class. Please note that animals/pets are not allowed. Students may bring a picture on their pet if they choose. Math - We continue to practice our numbers and mental math strategies (i.e. doubles +/- 1, 2 etc, making 10, estimation, rounding).           Welcome back! I would like to commend students for their attendance and participation in last week’s school Remembrance Day ceremony. The event went off without a hitch and was a special moment for those in attendance. A reminder to parents, that parent- teacher interviews will be held this Thursday evening (Nov 20th) and Friday morning (Nov 21st). There will be no school for students on Friday. Scheduled time notices for parents/guardians interviews will be sent home Wednesday along with report card.  French - We continue to discuss “family” as our theme this week. We will take a look at what members of our family enjoying doing during their spare time i.e. activities, clubs, special events, etc. We continue to develop ideas using our writing webs in order to facilitate a descriptive writing assignment that we will write about a chosen members of our family. Guided reading continues. Please ensure students are reading nightly and recording their books in their record sheets. Again, these are books that have been well rehearsed in class and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete.   Math - Our focus will be on the mathematical terms/vocabulary and incorporating written sentences into our responses. We continue learning our basic facts (i.e. doubles, making 10, etc). We will review strategies to add and subtract 2-digit numbers, and move on to learn strategies for addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers. On Friday, we will also have a small pop quiz.   Reminders: - Sign and return parent-teacher interview notices. - Reading is to occur nightly.      Welcome back :) A reminder that report cards will be sent home next week.French - This week we will be wrapping up our theme on animals and moving on to discuss families. Last week, students were taught how to use our class set of French dictionaries in order to assist them in their very first piece of writing.  We are going through the writing steps process as we progress with our vocabulary and terminology. It is very exciting to see the progress your child has made. Their first piece of writing was all about a “weird” animal they had to create and describe.We will also commence Show and Tell “Montre et Raconte” in class this week in order to develop student’s vocabulary, fluidity, comprehension and listening skills. I will demonstrate on Monday and students (alphabetical order) and commence on Tuesday. Montre et Raconte is always a big hit with students, and I look forward to seeing the many surprises students bring to class. Please note that animals/pets are not allowed. Students may bring a picture on their pet if they choose. Math - This week we will be moving on to tackle mental math strategies up to 2 digits, along with addition and subtraction of 3 digits numbers where the final answer can be as high as 1000. As always, we continue to practice numbers orally up to 100.      Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the Halloween video presentation we sang last Friday. Students really enjoyed practicing the song.It is hard to believe that we are already into the month of November. Report cards and parent teacher interviews are just around the corner. I look forward to meeting many parents/guardians.  French - We will be continuing our theme on Animals. Our objective will be to describe physical characteristics of various animals We are now into the swing of things with our Daily 5/guided reading sessions. 5 centers have been created (i.e. read to self, read with Mr. Glazier, writing, etc) and students have taken well to their assigned duties. Bravo les amis! We are also in the process of reading many browsing box books in order to have an ample supply for your son/daughter to bring home and read at night. Daily sound sheets are also reviewed each day and sent home to be rehearsed.You will notice as well that students now have a new reading log sheet in their take home bag. Please ensure that students write down the book(s) they have read on this sheet and place in their bags nightly. Doing so enables me to keep track of their reading and what books may need to be return if forgotten at home. Our school Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Monday, November 10th. In preparation for this event our class will be creating and painting poppies out of egg cartons. If you are able to send in an empty carton to school by Thursday it would be greatly appreciated.    Math - We continue to practice our numbers orally up to 100. Our focus is now on addition and subtraction.  My focus this week will be on new vocabulary, doubles +/- 1, 2, number lines and relationships between addition and subtraction (N.10 of NB Math 3 curriculum).      Welcome to our 8th week of school. Time has gone by quickly. I am impressed with the level of French your child has learned thus far. Let’s keep up the good work J    French - This week we will continue with our theme on animals. This week we will also go through the writing steps process as we progress with our vocabulary and terminology. It is very exciting to see the progress your child has made. I began last week by demonstrating what is expected of students during this time. Further explanation of this procedure will be given during parent teacher interviews or via e-mail if you are curious as to what takes place. This time essentially provides me the opportunity to read and work with a group of students, while the others are tasked with various activities.   Math - We continue with  mental math strategies up to 2 digits, along with addition and subtraction of 3 digits numbers where the final answer can be as high as 1000. Last week we reviewed our doubles +/- 1, 2 etc. This week we will practice addition with a number line.   As always, we continue to practice numbers orally up to 100.
