Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful week end. Here are a few things that are going on in room 221! This morning we went book shopping around the room to trade in our picture books for our book boxes. Then we traded our read the word books. Everyone is doing excellent work during daily five! We are up to 12 minutes of uninterrupted reading and continue each day to build our stamina! Well done kids! We now have many strategies up on our CAFÉ menu to help us become better readers. This week we are working on reading with expression which helps us with our fluency and asking ourselves questions as we read. This helps us with our comprehension. Tell someone at home what comprehension means!             The students are coming along in their writing quite nicely. Many come to school each day with a topic in their pocket! We have been learning about adjectives and how they help make our stories more interesting because they are describing words! The students are now able to see how well they are doing with their writing by checking at the back of our room to see if their writing matches the sample of a good writer. Writer’s get a thumbs up to: using finger spaces between their words, having a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence and using punctuation at the end of sentences, using the word wall and stretching out sounds of unknown words! We have already been in school for 42 days! That was our number of the day today! Was that number even or odd boys and girls? How did you know? In grade 1 we are learning how to use a ten frame to find out our pairs that make ten. Also, we are learning how to use a number line to help us with our addition sentences and number stories! We also continue to practice our skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.The grades 2’s are looking at number lines too! They are really working hard at skip counting with different starting points. It can get tricky! As you can see we are working really hard here in room 221! I hope everyone has an excellent sleep tonight and comes to school ready to listen and learn!

Bonjour Everyone! Girls and boys in room 221 received their writing folders yesterday in Language Arts. There are two sections to their folders. One side has a green sticker and the other side has a red sticker. What do the colors stand for boys and girls? They remind me of traffic lights. Hmmm? Let your parents know! We are continuing to build our stamina during Read to Self and have worked our way up to five minutes of non-stop reading! The first round was really well done today! We have traded our books so that really makes it more interesting to read! In Math the grade two’s were working with the one hundred chart and they were also reading and interpreting a nickel pictograph!   What did you learn today grade 2? Over on the grade 1 side we were working with ten frames and learning how to grab a number, put it in our head, and count on! Holy, that was hard, but we did it!! What else did you learn in Math today grade 1? Oh yes! We used the ten frames to show one more, one less, two more and two less with a number of our choice between 2 and 8. What was your number? After lunch we had Music and Phys. Ed and then it we finished our day with a SMART Board Math game! Parents, there are some early dismissal information sheets that went home today along with some other notices. Please make sure to sign and return these as soon as you can :O) ! Good morning everyone! We launched our reading groups yesterday, picked our own short stories for our reading boxes, and practiced the first part of our reading program, Daily Five. Do you remember what it was called girls and boys? (Read to Self).  Mrs. Comeau taught us a really groovy song to help us pick our books!! Were you singing it to your family last night? I was practicing at the supper table with my family! They thought it was pretty good J ! We also put up five sight words on our word wall and made up a song for them too! Boy oh boy does Mrs. Comeau like to sing! It makes things so much more fun to learn!! In grade 1 Math class, we modeled our number of the day in different ways, continued to practice counting to 20, making different groups with a given number, and explored different ways to make patterns with snap cubes and found the part that repeats! The grade two’s learned how to gather information about themselves and others to answer questions. They are learning how to create graphs with Mrs. Robinson! Do you remember the names of the graph’s you will be creating grade 2? (Pictographs and concrete graphs) In You and Your World Ms. Gallant went over our bus safety rules and we wrote down one rule that we remembered and then began to color our buses, then it was off to the gym for Phys. Ed. ! What did you do in there yesterday boys and girls? This evening we will have our open house.
