I just wanted to thank all the parents who sent in treats for the children. They had a terrific afternoon at the Halloween Jamboree and did a fantastic job with their choral reading! I hope everyone has a safe and fun evening of trick or treating!

We had a great week at school!  We got our math tests back and we all did a fantastic job!  In writing workshop we were writing stories about our Halloween costume or making up a spooky make-believe story about Halloween. This week we have been practicing Read to Someone and checking for understanding. Today we had a visit from Mad Science.  A lady did experiments using dry ice!! This was awesome. She made a volcanoe using dry ice, hot water and  dish soap. She put a banana into a cooler full of dry ice and within 20 minutes it was rock solid. She could bang it with a hammer and it wouldn't break!  There is a notice going home today about MadScience workshops being held after school for students. Please check our this notice. Tomorrow is our Halloween Jamboree. Don't forget to bring your costume to put on for the afternoon. After the Jamboree we will have a small party in our classroom!                                    Written by grade 2 students.

Yesterday we had a visitor from Kouchibouquac National Park. He was here to talk about owls and bats. It was very interesting!  We learned that there are vampire bats but they do not live in Canada and they do not bite people in the neck only on their big toe!!!  We also learned the different sounds that the owls make.  We thought the bats and owls were very freaky. In Fast Forword we are earning dollars for our hard work on the computer. We need to remember to pay very close attention to our own work and not talk to others. We are working on an All About Me poster in class. Mrs. MacDonald received some free books from Scholastic and gave us each two!! They are called:  "The Book Report from the Black Lagoon"  and "I am SkippyJon Jones".                                         Written by Gr.2 class

Our class is having a lot of fun with Fast Forward!  We are doing awesome in Math. We are learning about the calendar, number of the day, odd and even numbers and addition and subtraction. We also have lots of fun at recess. We are working in teams to earn points for listening, following directions and working quietly. They can earn points by doing all of the above as well as getting along with each other.  So far each group has won a prize. Great Job everyone! In Read to Self we are now at 23 minutes!!!  Wow! We are super readers. In Writing workshop we write our own cool stories about what happens in our lives.                                             Written by Gr.2 students

Notes to remember:  Library books are due back each week on Tuesday!                                Scholastic Book orders are due:  October 14th (Tomorrow) We have  now begun the  FastForward computer program. Students are working on this program everyday for 50 minutes. This is a very worthwhile program and will help improve their literacy skills!
