Our basketball season is beginning Monday, November 23rd. Practices will take place on Monday and Wednesday from 3-4pm. We will try to have most games on Wednesday but a more detailed schedule will be sent home once we receive more information about game dates. We ask that all students bring appropriate clothing (i.e. running shoes, track pants, shorts, water, snacks, etc.) Once games begin, all players are asked to show up for each game at least 15 minutes before hand. If a home game is being played, students are permitted to stay afterschool until the game begins. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation to and from each game/practice. Practices end at 4pm sharp. The games will take place at various schools in Miramichi. Practice dates for November Nov. 23rd 3-4pm Nov. 25th 3-4pm Nov. 30th 3-4pm Dec. 2nd 3-4pm This will be the last practice before the gym is set up for the Christmas Concert. Tips for Keeping Snacks Safe     Always wash hands before preparing or eating a snack. This is the one of best ways to prevent food spoilage and contamination. Wash all fruits and veggies under cold running water. Clean all lunch boxes, thermal bags, plastic utensils and containers in hot soapy water. DO NOT re-use plastic wrapping and bags. Keep foods cold -Yogurt, deli meats and cheese should be kept cold. -Be sure to keep lunches in the fridge until the morning and include an ice pack or frozen juice pack when sending lunches to school. -Left-overs that are to be re-heated in the microwave should also be kept cold until ready to eat. Keep hot foods hot -Use a thermos or insulated bottle to keep foods hot.

Another way to accumulate 60 minutes of physical activity each day is by using active transportation.   What is active transportation? It means to walk, bike or rollerblade instead of going by car! To do this: Put on your sneakers, strap on a backpack and walk all, or part of the way to school. Think twice before asking for a drive. Could you walk or use your bike instead?   Did you know that if children walked for all trips less than one kilometer they would accumulate approximately 15 to 20 minutes of walking per trip?  They would be well on their way to achieving the 60 minutes/day of physical activity they require for a better health.   Research suggests that, given the choice, most children would prefer to walk or bike to school rather than take a bus or be driven by their parents?   In addition to improving overall health, active transportation can improve your performance at school provide an opportunity to spend time with friends reduce stress promote quality sleep improve air quality   Remember every minute counts!
