Here are a few Math problems of the week created by the grade 5 students.
They are working on the Unit: Patterns and equations.
1) (Nicole) There were 101 students at an assembly. Everytime a student left, the total number of students would decrease by one. How many students were at the assembly after 5 students left. Find the equation.
2) (Ben) Matt owns a store. He sells lollipops in his store. They cost $4.00 the first day he opened the store. The price increases by $1.00 each day. How much does one lollipop cost on the 6th day? Find the equation.
3)(Colby) Dr. David has 4 test tubes in his lab on his first week. Dr. David gets 1 test tube every week after that. How many test tubes does he get in 6 weeks? Find the equation.
4) (Zach R) I have some candy. I want to give each friend I see, 1 more than the person before them. I give the first person 4 candies. How much candy does the 6th friend get? Find the equation.
5) (Jason) Dave has $100 dollars. Every day, he buys a bag of chips that cost $1.00. How much money would he have at the end of the week? Find the equation.
6) (Angela) A man was selling tickets that cost $1.00. There were 100 people in line to buy a ticket. How much money did he make selling 5 tickets and who did he sell the 5th ticket to? Find the equation.
7) (Shannon) Linda bakes 101 coolies. Every day, she gives 1 away to a friend. On the 1st day, she gives one away, leaving her with 100 cookies. On the fifth day, she has 96 cookies left. Write an expression for the problem.
