Homework week of Jan. 20-24
Read 15 minutes and record
Practice Spelling words (you can clap out each letter, write
it in rainbow, etc)
Words: real, almost, above, girl, sometimes, mountain , young Math sheet due Friday
* It is crucial that students are reading every
night and recording in their reading logs. This will help build their stamina
and comprehension skills
In Literacy,
we have started a new piece of writing called “Procedural Writing.”
Students have brainstormed topics they can write about such as: How to build a
snowman, how to make a peanut butter sandwich and How to ride a bike.
Students are doing a great job during Daily 4.
We have been focusing on comprehension (understanding what they read) by
learning various strategies. Some strategies discussed were
1. Check for understanding by asking who is in
the story and what happened
2. Rereading a certain part of the text
In math this week we are learning how to
subtract 3 digit numbers using a variety of strategies. These include using
base ten blocks and a number line. If you have time, it would be beneficial for
students to practice extra math at home. Even one question a night such as:
345 – 158
(where students would have to
regroup)
